In the dissertation, the researcher analyzes the Education Technology & e-Teaching (ET) competence of higher education faculty and looks into the modes and approaches of professional development for higher education faculty' ET competence in an information age. The researcher explores the training, management and assessment systems of teacher training. The research aims at enhancing teachers' ET competencies in all possible aspects including the design, development, utilization, management and evaluation of teaching resources and the optimization of the teaching process.The dissertation is based on the theoretical and practical research on the building of ET competence. Teacher training is an effective means of enhancing teachers' ET competence. ET competence is a basic part in the teachers' qualifications, especially in an information society. The outcome of this research is of guiding significance to various education institutions.The highlights of this dissertation are as follows.1. A thorough analysis of e-teaching and e-leaming is presented.With large quantities of investigations and researches, the dissertation presents the up-to-date development of teachers' ET competence, depicts e-learning and e-teaching in colleges and universities, identifies the motivation of teaching reforms and teachers' professional development and points out that the development of ET competence is a must in a new education era.2. A systematic interpretation of the supporting theories is provided on the improvement of ET competence.The researcher explores the supporting theories of ET training, such as Group Dynamics, Action Learning and Knowledge Management and the application of such theories on actual training.3. The standards of ET competence are established.
