Based on the global value chain theory, the thesis studies the development of Chinese sports goods industry cluster which is embedded in the global value chain, takes the Jinjiang sports shoe industry as the research objective, combines the relevant theory of sports economics, geo-economics and Industrial Economics. It aims at discussing the sustainable development of Chinese sports goods industry. From the point of view of global value chain, the research idea of the thesis aims at examining the development mechanism of Chinese sports goods industry. It discussed the internal relationship of global value chain and the local industrial clusters and its transfer. A theoretical framework for the development of industrial clusters is built. And then, industrial clusters are taken into the global value chain theory to verify the theory. It can be concluded that local industrial clusters are an outcome of global value chain fragmentation and it developed with the economic development. When the local industrial clusters meet the raising bottlenecks concerning labor, resources and so on, it should take into account that embed into the global value chain, strip the producing and processing and transfer the industry, make use of the global resources, improve their product quality and brand awareness and image, and thus access to highly added value through the global value chain into higher levels of value chains. That is to say, when some of the key elements within the region cannot meet the development of industrial clusters, industrial clusters should embed into global value chains, through the global search for resources or elements required, solve the bottleneck problems encountered during the development of industrial cluster with the purpose of maintaining the sustainable development of industrial clusters and enrich the upgrade path of Chinese sports goods industrial clusters and the manner and purpose of industrial transfer. In the meantime, it provides the theoretical basis for the development of industrial clusters and economic policies making. In order to verify the theoretical mode of development mentioned above, the thesis makes an empirical analysis which takes Jinjiang footwear industry clusters as an entry point and integrates the local industrial cluster development and global value chains. And it employs the global value chain positioning analysis, embedded mode, upgrade path and the industrial transfer methods of industrial clusters to study specific ways of development of the Jinjiang footwear industry cluster. The thesis holds that: first, Jinjiang sports goods industrial cluster is the result of internationalization of industrial clusters in developed countries and its development depends on their endogenous factors as well as jointing and interacting with the global value chain, overcome the bottleneck of the development of industrial clusters and achieve industrial upgrading. At the beginning of the formation of industrial clusters, by means of technology development, the introduction of foreign advanced technology and equipment, the product quality has been improved and the restricting factors of the cluster has been eliminated gradually. When the local industrial clusters experience the situation that key elements and resources cannot meet the needs of its development, it must be embedded in global value chains and take the path of international development; second, Jinjiang sporting goods industrial cluster makes use of the internationalization of products, markets, capital and resources to achieve lower cost, better quality and more competitive of its products, at the same time to avoid international trade friction and the occurrence of anti-dumping. The major impact on home country is to promote the upgrading of industrial structure, improve technological progress and increase employment opportunities; third, the IPO companies in Jinjiang sports goods industrial cluster should establish technology, intellectual property alliance and research and development center, produce the worldwide first-class product, and directly compete with the foreign large companies of sports goods, build international brands, enhance their competitiveness and become strong and prosperous corporately; four, the competition of enterprise products today is not the isolated competition among companies but the competition of strategy, concept and product value chain. It is a transition from the separate company competing in the world to the industrial cluster embedded in the global value chain. All aspects of the value chain are interdependent and mutually linked, and any one aspect in trouble will affect the entire product value chain. However, all aspects of the value chain have differences in high or low levels. In the pursuit of higher added value, each aspect takes various means of competition, and constantly peels aspects with low added value, possesses of high value-added aspect and achieves maximize profits of their products. Finally, based on the theoretical analysis and empirical research, the thesis proposed the ideas and strategies for the development of Chinese sports goods industry and provided a useful theoretical reference for the development of the sports goods industry and economic policy-making.The research details are as follows:Chapter one is an introduction. First, the research background, purpose and significance of this paper are described. The second part is a review of the current situation of domestic and foreign research. Finally, it is about the research framework and the research methods of the paper, and the innovation and the points where need further research.Chapter two is theoretical analysis. First, the related concept of global value chain (local industrial clusters, sports goods industry clusters, local industrial clusters internationalization, etc.) are defined. Second, the concept of industrial clusters, characteristics, formation conditions and mechanism are reviewed. Then, the concept of global value chains, governance mechanisms, drive mechanisms and industrial upgrading in global value chain are discussed. At last, the internal relationship of global value chain and the local industrial clusters and its transfer are analyzed. It stated that local industrial clusters are an outcome of global value chain fragmentation and it developed with the economic development. When the local industrial clusters meet the raising bottlenecks concerning labor, resources and so on, it should take into account that embed into the global value chain, strip the producing and processing and transfer the industry, make use of the global resources, improve their product quality and brand awareness, and thus access to highly added value through the global value chain into higher levels of value chains.Chapter three is empirical study. It mainly uses Jinjiang footwear industrial cluster for case study and explore the development of local industrial clusters. This chapter can be divided into four parts: first, overview of the development of the cluster, growth trajectory, competitive advantages and the difficulties faced; Second, analyzed the global value chain cluster in which the dynamic mechanism and governance model, and pointed out the path and experience to upgrade of the foreign footwear clusters; third, from the perspective of the value chain analyze the conditions and methods to promote the transfer of industry and identify the object, carrier and its future trends, then discuss the flow of industry transfer location, analyze the economic effects of international industrial transfer. Finally, on the basis of the theoretical and empirical research in the preceding chapters, the general idea of the development of industrial clusters are proposed, and from business, government and industry associations aspects, the relevant recommendations and measures are also proposed.Chapter four is a summary of the full text. It draws the conclusions of the paper.
