Since 1990s, with the Cold War ending, Economic Globalization fast developing and science and technology promptly advancing, world economy has been greatly changed. The connection among countries has become closely and a united international market formed. At the same time, the fast increase of international direct investment, transnational corporations ( TNCs ) as the main body, has quickened international industry transferring and global industry structure adjusting, strengthened the connections among countries and interdependently, which caused enterprises' international competition environment greatly changed. Communication technology revolution provides technology condition for economic globalization; technology innovation is accelerated and product life cycle shortened; economic freedom and regional economy integrating give more developing space for enterprises. For adapting to the new competition environment, American TNCs adjusted their global strategy firstly.In 1970s and 1980s, the international competition ability of American TNCs has been gliding, which lead to American direct investment abroad shrinking in 1980s. When entering 1990s, because of American economic structure adjusting and its new economy developing, American direct investment abroad increased again speedily. With this background, since the beginning of 1990s, many American enterprises have firstly operated corporation strategy adjustment and management innovation. Enterprise strategy has transferred from manufacturing to service, from hardware to software and systematic products, with emphasizing core operation and cultivating core competition in reconstructing strategy, etc. American enterprises began to carry out global strategy. So, it will be meaningful for our enterprises investing abroad to study American TNCs strategic management adjusting on the background of economic globalization deeply and systematically.First, economy globalization encourages enterprise production internationalization and finance seryice globalization. The countries begin to untie themanagement to their economy and the trade and investment develop freely. A united world market formed gradually. At the same time, America went through the longest economy growth cycle of its history in 1990s. Accompanied with stable economy growth, America creates a wonder of low inflation rate, low unemployment rate and federal finance from loss to surplus. So, it is meaningful to study the effect of American new economy on its TNCs in full-scale and systematically on the background of economy globalization.Second, because of the development of economy globalization, American TNCs face a complete new situation of very broad global market, which offers a good opportunity for them on the one hand, on the other hand, makes them go into a more severe global competition. As for it, American TNCs have to carry out deep management reform in full-scale. Especially in strategic management, they must draw out relevant and suitable global strategy. The development of American new economy creates demands for American TNCs global production. American economic structure adjustment and technology innovation increases greatly American TNCs global competition ability. So, it is meaningful to study the changes of American TNCs strategic management in this period deeply.Third, since the reform and open policy in end of 1970s, our country has been keeping the trend of developing fast and got great achievement in use foreign investment. However, our enterprises' investment abroad develops slowly and its scale is small. Especially on the background of fast development of economy globalization, our enterprise management drops behind relatively and its international competition ability is low. So, the deep study on American TNCs strategic management changes can offer many experience for our enterprises' investment abroad. It also help in cultivating its advantages and increasing internationall competition ability.The dissertation analyzes American TNCs global strategy adjusting on background of economic globalization by combining theory and practice, open out the relationship between economic globalization and enterprise development strategy. On the foundation, it refers to definitely our countermeasures and our enterprises'investing abroad strategy.The dissertation consists of six chapters, discussing dividedly economic globalization and its influences on American direct investment abroad, the environment of American global strategy, American TNCs development history and the compare with European TNCs and Japanese's, the developing of strategic management theory, American TNCs strategic management adjusting, our country's countermeasures and our enterprises' strategy, etc.Chapter 1 first introduces the development of economic globalization and its effect on world economy and American direct investment abroad, states that the development of economic globalization not only leads to world economy changed, but encourages American direct investment abroad; second analyzes American enterprises' environment in the new background, including international political, economic, legal, technologic and human resource environment, with enterprises' internal environment.Chapter 2 reviews the history of American TNCs global expanding, which deals mainly with the development of American TNCs global strategy in 1990s and compares it with European and Japanese TNCs. It states out where American TNCs competition advantages exists.Chapter 3 is mainly the study on strategic management. It first reviews the development of enterprise strategic management, especially the development of core competition ability theory in 1990s; then discusses the new advancement of American TNCs strategic management theory on the background of economic globalization and its new trend.Chapter 4 discusses in detail the adjustment of American TNCs strategic management on the background of economic globalization. It carries it out from three aspects of American TNCs' growing strategy, expanding strategy and competition strategy with their practice. It states that American TNCs has strep out to global market, growing, expanding and competing in global range, with the growing, expanding and competing mode changed.Chapter 5 discusses American TNCs' strategy in China on the background ofeconomic globalization. It refers to that American TNCs global strategy adjustment drives its strategy in China changing, which represents in it upgrading the strategic position of Chinese market and adjusting in operating.Chapter 6 deals with that our countermeasures to American TNCs strategic adjustment and our enterprises' developing strategy. It states that our government and enterprises must take relevant measures to adapt to the new environment on behalf of our country and enterprises.The dissertation adapts the method of combing theory research, case analysis and demonstration discussion. That's to say, its first uses theory research to sum up and conclude relevant study fruits on enterprise global strategy, especially about American TNCs global strategy. It combines the characteristics of American TNCs direct investment abroad and global management and finds out American TNCs strategic management development direction; it also combines American TNCs global production cases and refers to American TNCs strategic management mode in theory. Then it analyzes the involved elements of the mode deeply; it uses demonstration analysis to study some important concepts and their relations; last the dissertation draws conclusion and gives advice.The innovations of the dissertation are as follows:First is the attempt in enriching TNCs global strategic theory. The dissertation analyzing in detail TNCs global strategic management with American TNCs global growing up, expanding and competition practice. It expands the district choice in enterprise growing up, expanding and competition theory to the whole world, which has some innovations.Second is the analysis on American TNCs global strategy. The dissertation combines economy globalization development to study systematically about American TNCs strategic management changes in full-scale and perfects to some extent enterprise global producing strategic theory and mode.Third, the dissertation tries to use relevant economic theories to study the motivation, cause and mechanism of enterprise producing across border. It attempts to combine economic theory and management practice, which has some innovatedmeaning.The dissertation has also some shortages. As American TNCs global strategy adjustment starts in 1990s which is on the way, my cognition has some restrictions; because of time limit and my capability, the dissertation should study deeper on this issue; there existed the shortage in demonstration analysis.
