The Research On The Exchange Rate Cooperation In Eastern Asia

Although each country has its right to choose the exchange rate system according to its economic situation, the solely-decided mode of the exchange rate system may lead to the instability of a country's economy or an economic zone or even the whole international economy in the trend of international integration. It is for the reason of lacking coordination of exchange rate arrangement in East Asia that the East Asia Financial Crisis broke out in 1997 under the attack of international flowing capital. After the East Asia Financial Crisis, East Asia countries readjusted their exchange rate arrangement to a more flexible direction, but soon resumed the"pegging dollar"arrangement in practice. The"resumption of East Asia US dollar standard"embodied the external pressure and the internal contradiction of East Asia under the unsymmetrical monetary system. The past economic development of East Asia countries and their present conditions show that the existing exchange rate arrangement has hindered the development of East Asia economy in the long run and would initiate new financial crisis. Therefore, in order to overcome the internal defects of the East Asia exchange rate system, the dissertation attempts to probe into the issues that whether the East Asia countries can closely coordinate, and how to coordinate in the exchange rate arrangement.From the angle of the internal predicament for East Asia in the choices of the exchange rate systems before or after the East Asia Financial Crisis, the dissertation expounds the necessity of the coordination of exchange rate arrangement in East Asia, and through the analysis and inspection of economic basis of East Asia, it explores the preliminary conception of the mechanism of the exchange rate coordination in East Asia, and proposes the idea of China's strategic orientation under the background of the exchange rate coordination in East Asia.
