Modularity is a main trend of economic system development. This research focuses on the industry chain' s configuration, modality and integration pattern from the viewpoint of Modular System.Accordingly, following five important questions are what the study wants to answer. First, what are the basic configuration principles and characteristics of industry chain in a modular system? Second, what is the modality of industry chain in a modular system? Third, what is the essential mechanism of diversification and integration of industry chain in a modular system? Fourth, which organization' s structure can successfully support industry chain integration? Fifth, what is the dynamic mechanism during the process of industry chain integration? The thesis consists of eight chapters.Chapter 1 is the introduction. This part raised the core issues of study background, fundamental concepts, technical route of study, research methodology and potential innovating points.Chapter 2 reviewed the frontal theories in modularity and industry chain integration and discussed the research direction in industry chain integration field. This part established the foundation of the whole study.Chapter 3 saw about the configuration, modality and integration pattern of traditional industry chain. The configuration of traditional industry chain mainly shows as the vertical competition and cooperation relationship. The organic combination of product chain, value chain and knowledge chain constructs the modality of traditional industry chain. The integration is dominated by capital strength and carried out byhorizontal, vertical and mixed merger and acquisition.Chapter 4 discussed the basic configuration principles and characteristics of industry chain in a modular system. As the dominant aspects of industrial system turn to be knowledge, network, social capital and etc, technological division transits to functional division and industry chain actualizes modularization. In a modular system, industry chain is reticular and systematic is main characteristic of reticular industry chain.Chapter 5 probed into the modality of netted industry chain in modular system, which included the modality of product, value and knowledge. Product chain modality embodies in the form and evolvement of connecting rules among modules, the establishment of exchange rule among modules and the decomposing mode of material modules. Value chain modality exhibits that effects of network and increasing reward becomes the headspring of added value. Knowledge chain modality consists of division, innovation and competition. Knowledge chain modality is the dominant modality of industry in modular system and dominated the integration.Chapter 6 discussed the essential mechanism and pattern of diversification and integration of industry chain in a modular system. With the influence of modularizing effect and positive feedback, the diversification continues, which makes integration necessary. The process is tridimensional, including the integration of product, value and knowledge.Chapter 7 focused on the organization support and dynamic mechanism during the process of industry chain integration. According to product, value and knowledge integration, the suitable organization structures are separately strategic alliance of supply chain, netted organization dominated by core enterprise, and knowledge union. The dimensional organizational structure is industrial cluster. The dynamic mechanismincludes KS dynamic mechanism among enterprises, knowledge innovation mechanism based on dynamic knowledge chain and modular innovation mechanism.Chapter 8 conducted a demonstrational analysis of industrial chain integration based on the development of IC industry in Taiwan, which defends the theory.
