The information technology(IT) industry is knowledge-intensive which has played a very important role in Taiwan's development. In the last two decades especially, the revenues earned by IT companies have been so considerable that they were in fact the main force in creating and strengthening Taiwan's economy. However,Taiwan's IT industry has been facing fierce competition in recent years.Today, companies have had to be more diligent in creating new value and exploring new areas for development. In addition, they have had to head in the direction of transforming and upgrading themselves. They need to think carefully about establishing innovative strategies and the basic requirements and actions of their own brands in allowing the rise of new values to reflect the results of their efforts. Through on-going innovation and accumulation of knowledge, companies generate intellectual capital enhancing their value and creating a continuous and sustainable operation which is the key in determining their competitiveness. In view of this, the development of an enterprise should be based on its vigorous innovative activities and its solid intellectual capital. The main objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between IT companies' innovative activities, intellectual capital and operational development,as exemplified with a case of performance evaluation to measure the practicability of the model. The participants of the study were managers of listed Taiwanese IT companies chosen using random Stratified Sampling. The results were analyzed using the Structural Equation Model (SEM).Besides,a performance evaluation model was subsequently created based on a company's innovative activities, intellectual capital and operational development. Integrating Fuzzy Integral and Analytical Hierarchy Process(AHP),the operational performance of a particular company in terms of the three aspects mentioned above was evaluated, and the applicability of the model was explained. The results indicated that:(1) the innovative activities and intellectual capital of listed companies in the Taiwanese IT industry have a significant and positive correlation;(2) the intellectual capital of listed companies in the Taiwanese IT industry has a positive influence on their operational development;(3) the innovative activities of companies in the Taiwanese IT industry have a positive influence on their operational development;and(4) for individual companies,a performance evaluation model based on the company's innovative activities, intellectual capital and operational development is considerably practical.
