In the broader terms, geo-economic is a theory researching economic relations between the geo-economic actors in the specific geo-economic environment. In the narrower terms, geo-economic is referred to the geo-economic relationship among the geo-economic actors within the specific geo-economic space, which aims to seek national interests by promote geo-economic interactions. This dissertation mainly focuses on geo-economics inn the narrower terms. This dissertation defines geo-economic relationship as the international economic relationship among state actors in the specific geographical space.In particular, this dissertation studies the geo-economic relationships in the following three levels: First, geo-economics relationships formed by natural neighboring countries; Secondly, geo-economic relationships in the specific sub-regions; Third, the neighboring border trade and investment relations based on a particular geographical space. Moreover, form the strategic level, the state actors in the certain geo-economic space may form the specific land or waterway channels and the corresponding geo-economic relationships.This dissertation is divided into nine sections. Foreword explains that the academic significance of this dissertation is to provide an essential case for Chinese geo-economic studies in the early 21st century. This dissertation is based on the strategic conceptions of"peaceful development"and"new security conception", and draw lessons from the Western geo-political and economic theories, as well as non-balanced development theories of regional economics.From Chapterâ… to Chapter III, this dissertation reviews and analyzes the geo-economic research achievements of the scholars at home and abroad. The western scholars focuses on the research of power and interest, concern about the great powers' economic competitiveness, and taking the study of domestic interest groups into account; Chinese scholars especially show interests in constructing the geo-economics theory with"peaceful development"strategic conception; the scholars in ASEAN pay more attention to the sub-regional geo-economic cooperation models in ASEAN region. Most of the existing geo-economic achievements lay particular stress on the geo-economic relations among great powers. This dissertation considers that, it is possible to realize innovations in the middle-level or micro-level of the geo-economic research. Based on the explanation mentioned above, this dissertation analyzes the great powers'effluences to the geo-economic and political structure in Asia, such as the United States, Japan and India. It explains the existing geo-economic advantages and geopolitical disadvantages China and ASEAN, and then analyzes the driving forces promoting Sino-ASEAN geo-economic cooperation.From Chapter IV to Chapter VI, this dissertation explains the Sino-ASEAN geo-economic co-operations in trade, investment and finance, from the regional level, sub-regional level as well as border level. At the same time, this dissertation analyzes opportunities and challenges confronted by Sino-ASEAN economic co-operations: in the field of economic and trade cooperation, it is still some problems for Rimini's maintaining its importance in the regional settlement; in the field of finance and investment, both sides need to further improve the regional financial monitoring mechanism and improve the trade settlement mechanism in the region; from the sub-regional economic cooperation level, the main problem is how to maintain the sustainable economic development in the sub-regions and break through the bottlenecks in capital and technology.Form Chapter VII to VIII, this dissertation views the prospective of Sino-ASEAN geo-economic co-operations. This dissertation concludes the specialties of Sino-ASEAN geo-economic relationship and advances the constructive proposals for Sino-ASEAN geo-economic co-operations in the border level, sub-regional level and regional-level.
