| Trichel pulse (TP) is a special discharge phenomenon occurring in the initial stage of negative corona discharge. The electrical characteristics of TPs are close related to many parameters of discharge system. To investigate those correlations is beneficial to reveal the intrinsic mechanism of the development of corona discharge and to find an application of TPs in sensing and measurement area.In this dissertation, according to the shortcomings in traditional studies, mathematical model has been particularly improved and the multiphysics-coupled method is used to perform simulation and solve the model. The mechanisms of TP discharge under complicated environments are profoundly and quantitatively investigated. Moreover, the application of TPs in sensing and detection, especially respiration monitoring, is exploited. The main work are as follows:1) According to the weakness of traditional method, a hydrodynamic drift-diffusion based mathematical model has been particularly improved for the TPs. Main physical processes during TP discharge are included and the effects of important environment parameters are coupled in improved model. This model can be used to efficiently study the effects of environment parameter on the TP discharge.2)Based on the improved mathematical model, simulations have been performed using multiphysics-coupled method to study the influences of important environment parameters such as airflow, temperature, humidity and pressure. The mechanisms and the variations of TP frequency and amplitude have been analyzed in detail.3) Experimental studies are extensively conducted to explore the electrical characteristics of TP discharge with different electrode configurations. The effects of environment parameters and different electrode configurations on the TP discharge have been analyzed and quantitative results have been obtained.4) A potential application of TPs for respiration monitoring is proposed. The breath rate can be readily extracted from the changes in TP frequency. The mechanism of sensing as well as impacts of environment has been analyzed in detail. |
