In the research by the solid wooden furniture structural mechanics theory and finite element theory, robust design based on Taguchi method with ANSYS software is conducted to optimize the structure of the solid wooden chair L-shaped corner dowel joint and backrest chair. It is proved that robust design based on Taguchi method with ANSYS software is feasible in effective applied in solid wooden furniture structure design.A creative method of wooden chair furniture structure is summarized based on the Taguchi method with ANSYS finite element analyses, the main conclusions are as follows:(1)It is shown from optimal results and confirmation test that there is a significant improvement from initial condition to optimal condition and the IR for von Mises stress and maximum deformation also decreases at different levels for three kinds of furniture materials elm, pine and modified poplar.(2) Three kinds of solid wooden material has not got totally similar optimal results in optimizing L-shaped corner dowel joint and backrest chair with the maximum equivalent stress and maximum deformation being chosen as structure quality feature values of robust optimization design.The effective level of design factors for structure quality feature values is not exactly the same.Design features of material itself have bigger influence on the quality characteristics which is also need to be considered as the important design factors.In solid wooden furniture structure of Taguchi robust design method of finite element, the design properties database of material is need to be established first with the chair furniture structure form and the way of joint of database which provides the premise foundation for structural robust design.(3) Finite Element Analysis with Taguchi Method can be applied to optimize effectively the combination of structure design factor to maximize structure performance characteristic and minimize quality variation of the solid wooden kind of furniture structure design and also provide a new train of thought to perfect the application of ANSYS finite element software in solid wood furniture structure issues and associate comprehensively of strength, appearance, and quality of structure in the collaborative development of furniture modeling and structure design.
