Research On Urban Greenway Planning And Design

Under the global urbanization in post-industrial society, urban development exerts a increasing influence on the natural eco-development. Meanwhile, the demand of urban residents for public space is updating. The planning and design of "urban Greenway" and its networks, have becoming the effective tool and method for the designers to solve the urban problems such as the shortage of urban ecological resources, deterioration of urban environment, historical context fracture and insufficiency of the public space, etc.Taking the methods of literature research, case analysis, argument and summary and practical thinking, the paper showed the solid theoretical foundation, promising start point of the academic research and reasonable research direction. The first chapter mainly introduced the background of the "Greenway", including the origin, meaning, characteristics and the discrimination of relative conceptions. In the second chapter, the paper reviewed the history of the "Greenway" by the literature review in order to further the theoretical study. During the next period, the paper summarized five core strategies for the construction of urban greenway, which are the thought of landscape ecology, comprehensive analysis and implementation, the combination of various usages and functions, building and maintaining connectivity and the urban environmental adaptability. And then the detailed discussion was made on each of them. Based on the analysis of the classification methods from different scholars on the greenway, the paper also put forwards the sorting technique and principle of the urban greenway and then further analyzed the key points of the construction of each type. There are two kinds of classification systems of greenway:one kind is that based on the various functions, urban greenway can be classified to three types, which are the historical cultural resources protection, ecological protection and recreation; another is that based on the different resources of building the urban greenway, it can be also classified to three types that are water-oriented, wasteland-dependent and productive green space-dependent. After the study of the greenways’types, the paper summed up the key points of building and managing the greenway. Finally, the paper summarized the main research achievements, innovation points and application prospects of this work, and pointed out the future direction and content of development for the planning and design of urban greenway.The paper comes up with rational and meaningful design suggestions on the basis of the construction experiences from domestic and abroad. Furthermore, the research results have a guiding significance for the coining design and construction of urban greenway. Meanwhile, this paper is aimed to attract more urban planners, designers and policy makers concerning about the development of the urban greenway.
