The consolidation and the elastic wave scattering of the graded saturated soil are the most important research topics in the field of hydraulic and hydroelectric and geotechnical engineering. The consolidation is widely utilized to calculated the settlement of founda-tion and the the loading limit of the foundation. The scattering of wave bears the impor-tant significance in the most engineering projects such as nondestructive evaluation and earthquake engineering. To complement the research of the consolidation and the wave scattering in the graded saturated soil, this dissertation gives a systematically study on the consolidation and the scattering on the basis of the boundary elements methods. The main work are made as followsIn the first chapter, the advance of the consolidation and the elastic wave scattering is reviewed in details. The conception and property of the saturated soil is given by analyzing the mechanical properties of the new materials. The necessity of the study on the consolidation of the graded saturated soil is explained according to an overview of a classic consolidation’s theory. The research methods of the elastic wave scattering are shown on the basis of reviewing the literature. It is illustrated that the boundary element method is the most effective means to solve the problem of consolidation and scattering by an overview of numerical methods. Finally, the main contents of the paper are given. In the second chapter, the basic equations to control the consolidation and wave scattering in the graded saturated soil is given by using some fundamental assumptions, penatration theory and elastic knowledge on basis of the porous media and Biot theory. In these equations, the parameters are varying with position coordinates in graded saturated soil compared with classic materials.One-dimensional consolidation problems of the graded saturated soil are solved in the third chapter. Firstly, the consolidation in the graded sphere sample subjected to con-stant loading all round the surface is studied by use of integral transform and numerical methods. Secondly, the consolidation in the graded layer subjected to the constant load-ing is studied by using separating variables and orthogonal functions in both free drained at top and bottom and drained at top and impermeable at bottom. Finally.the consolida-tion in the layer subjected to the varying loading is solved through the boundary element methods. The SH wave scattering by the defects in the orthotropic graded saturated soil in the f(?)rth chapter.
