Shear wave velocity is an important parameter of the soil on the site. Because of the test’s results are intuitive and easily for use, the situ shear-wave velocity test has become one of the most commonly used test in engineering. For any scientific data, measurements can be repeated, so that the test error and the confidence intervals should be answered in the analysis. So far, the results of the error of the shear-wave velocity test is specializes essentially blank. This has led to the engineers and researchers show great controversy about the test and doubts about the reliability of the results. There for, they can’t develop the related standards and improve the test technology. At the same time, the impact of the discrete of the shear-wave velocity on the ground motion has been always an important research topic. But due to the velocity test error is unknown, previous research have to use the assumed dispersion to analysis the influence of ground motion. This led to the results is lack of the basis. Also, the researchers can’t give the evaluation of the existing experimental precision velocity and velocity vibration technology from the angle of impact on the ground motion. This article focused on the need of engineering and research work. The author designed the special experiment of shear-wave velocity test error and got the results systematically. Then, the article carried out the distribution of the test error and made an evaluation on it. By using the real test error of the velocity, the impact on ground motion had also been figured out. According to the statistics results, the author had evaluated the influence at different probabilities.Through the test results and huge analysis work, the article have done a lot of work on situ shear-wave velocity test error and its impact on ground motion. The tasks which have been done are shown as followed.First, 55 representative domestic units had been invited for the test. They had finished the special shear-wave velocity test error experiments for the first time in 20 different venues at eight regions in China. The research group had got 600 sets of the measured data. Data analysis showed that the test results meet the statistical theory obviously, proved that experiment is reasonable and reliable.Second, by using the measured data, the author analysis the influence of the test environment for testing shear wave velocity error. The article pointed out that the most important inspect of the error is the noise of the site. Higher level of the noise carried out higher discrete test error. The soil properties, groundwater depth and other factors nearly had no effect on the test error. Then, the distribution model of the shear-wave velocity test errors had been formulated and tested by the statistics rules. The parameters of the distribution have been given for the first time. The author figured out an important conclusion that the test errors are nearly the same at different depths of the different site categories. A suggest has also been given to how to evaluate the test technology. At last, this article discussed the impact of the shear-wave velocity test error on the ground motion under the different level of input ground motion with different intensities. By using PGA and SI as an index, the author showed the impact of different levels of test error on the ground motion.
