Generated and developed on the basis of the fusion of art and technology, technological aesthetics is a new field which aims to achieve the relative balance and optimal results between aesthetics and technology in product design. The wheel, as an important component of automobile, its styling and performance require considerations of both aesthetics and engineering, which asks designers and engineers to work together to complete the task of design. However, in the current practice of production, the disjointed phenomenon of collaborative work is conspicuous. Wheel designers only focus on creative styling, while technical engineers are more concerned with the reliability of performance and producibility. How to achieve the the optimal balance between them in design and development phase is an important starting point for the research work in this paper.Technical aesthetic design concepts should be introduced in the design and development process of wheel. This paper presents the design and development process of wheel based on technological aesthetics.Based on the theory of styling aesthetics of product design and plane composition, this paper comprehensively analysis the modeling aesthetics characterization of static wheel, comparing with biological inheritance and points out that the wheel has "v-memory curve" aesthetic structure and modeling genetic characteristics with consideration of products’ unique centro-symmetric emission function structure.Using Kansei Engineering methods, it studies the perceptual cognitive differences of different groups to wheel styles. Through quantitative analysis of the questionnaire, it achieves the relationship between wheel hub style imagery and styling elements, which makes the perceptual image of designers resonated with consumers.Building models of five-spoke 15x6 J minimalist style wheel with golden proportion and the aesthetic rules and taking customer satisfaction as the core index of experimental investigation of visual aesthetics, it draws the single-spoke width range value of five-spoke 15x6 J minimalist style wheel which is in line with the consumer laws of visual aesthetics.Six five-spoke 15x6 J minimalist style wheel virtual bench testing finite element models are established through the CATIA software. Using ABAQUS FEA software for the finite element analysis of bending fatigue, radial fatigue and 13 impact virtual bench test, it achieves the laws of wheel’s front and back’s failure or damage, which provides designers and engineers with accurate engineering guidance in wheel design practice.
