The research team from School of Architecture at Tianjin University, conducted several on-site investigations about Angkorian architecture and its art from 2008 to 2012 as a paticipant in the Takeo Temple Conservation and Restoration Project aided by Chinese Government. Based on the previous observation and research, a comprehensive reconstruction research on Takeo temple had been done after analyzing the Angkorian buildings’ characteristics, especially the type of the Mountain-temple, which is the first case in this field done by Chinese institutions.A thourough search of texts on the Angkor Monuments had been collected and indexed, which contributed greatly to form a history of research and conservation about Angkor monuments.In this thesis, firstly, the history of Cambodia and architectural characteristics of Ankgor Monuments is brieved. According to the transition of research directions, three phases is divided: before and after World War II and after 1993 when the safeguarding of Angkor monuments is aided by intergovernmental efforts.The first phase of this thesis was divied into several periods. Activities and research results during these periods were summed up, including conservation, inscription, art styles and architecture. The same disposal is done about the second phase which focuses on conservation, iconological study and architecture.The third phase discussed different countries’ activities of conservation and restoration, focusing on Frence, Japan and China. The conservation concept and method from different culture is compared. At last, three specialized researches had been done about the study of Bayon temple, evolution of the concept and method used on Angkor monuments, and the study of Customs of Cambodia.Through analyzing, the history of research and conservation is clearly stated.
