Studies On Adaptive Urban Grid Design

Chineses cites in the procees of rapid urbanization need rapid design so as to meet the needs of the actual construction, but illusions may emerge if being immersed in the current problems. Urban grid is the framework of cities, which make up material basis of cities. High costs and transformation difficulty make the design of urban grid being far-sight.Firstly, this article researched adaptive theories, found that adaptive of Urban grid is a process of active cultural adjustment, which meet human demand through environmental reconstruction. City morphology are restricted by space-time, urban space is subjected to specific region and times. Urban space adpative measures are put forward through researching the adaptive concept and mechanism, so as to be the evaluation criterion for research of adaptive urban grid.Secondly, the urban grid was reaearched as a sort of cultural representaion. As a kind of abstract form, the uban grid may derive many types in which the lines and the cells may show differnet properities. City block was an important issue, the author tyied to find adaptive scales from historic development of chinese and western urban grids, and studied on the relationships between urban grid scale and grid profile, buildings, function division and geographical condition. The generative mechanism and deriving forces was also key peroblems in ontological study. Because the human cultural mature was the primary adaptive object of urban grid, mode selection was of fundemental improtance. The articale analyzed four kinds of grid prototypes originated from different cultures, as an announcement on culture transmissibility. The relationship of chinese traditional culture and urban grid forms was discussed in favour of a more particular knowedge of the root of grid forms. By studing chinese contemporary culture the author realized the microcirculation disturbance at the community level, set forth accordingly four kinds of community grid modes.Thirdly, the author constructed a synthetic system,Five-in-One, which connected culture with the other four elements:politic, economy, ecology and society. These fours elements functioned maninly in the realm of form adjustment. Although adaptive objects and mechanisms was multiple, a certain element may play a key role in this process in certain time. The article figured out how these four elements influenced the urban grid form and quality with carefully selected cases.Finally, the author put forward the supported tecnologies and design methods of adaptive urban grid. The former included four kinds:the figure-ground analysis, linkage theory, geographical identification tecnology and computer tecnology;the latter is summarized to six kinds:stratification, interchange, separation and reunion, double grids, cllage and function replacement.
