In the early 20th century, the rural areas of the Si-yi Region achieved massive constructions including Kaiping Diaolou and Villages adopted by the UNESCO as the World Heritage Site in 2007. By exploring the construction activities in the rural areas of the Si-yi Region systematically, and discussing the holistic feature of the built environment landscape, this paper aims to explain the systemic logic and the evolving procedure of this cultural landscape phenomenon.Since interdisciplinary researches almost focusing on the Diaolou and the villages it belongs, it is rare to study the whole built environment systemically, especially the regional characteristic transportation network of highways and railway which combines rural areas like cities, and rural public gardens as well. In addition, what is the modes of economic and organism spurring the distinctive culture landscape formed in just about 3 decades? What is the internal motive power of shaping the identical social psychology? The study on the relationship between construction and organization of the economic and the social force has been relatively split. Considering the limitations of the circumstances, the paper expounds the regional characteristics systemically and explores the motive procedure of built environment in the Si-yi Region in the modern time combining Overseas Chinese culture, the tradition of Chinese clan culture and relatively advanced social economic organization culture.This paper carefully sorts out the achievements of regional constructions in modern times.1. Considering particularly on the systematical well-developed transportation infrastructure that achieved in a special bottom-up way, this paper reveals networks comprised by the nodes of the villages in the traditional position and the nets of the roads including railway and highways formed closed loops.2. This paper not only explains how the clans control the constructions in the villages and effect the territory equalization as well as the modality of the consumption, but also points out with living examples that the joint stock cooperative system had been adopted flexibly to deal with the construction affair in and out the clan relationship.3. Beyond the discussion on the forms of local residential architecture including Diaolou and Lu, some specialized chapters are given to study public buildings such as schools and public gardens. By revealing the process of the series of regional characteristic architecture evolving, the courses of economic, culture and history are brought in with an overall system of the built environment developing in the Si-yi Region in modern times.The constructions emerged expeditiously in the Si-yi Region while making a breakthrough in traditional residential architectures, innovating on infrastructure and public buildings, achieving unique culture landscape and after all forming a grand sight of the systematized culture landscape of overseas Chinese’s home town in modern times. The paper points out that the foundation of this phenomenon is the social psychologies led by regional culture, as well as the Chinese Confucians integrated with the alien civilizations that conveying the common volition of overseas Chinese and clansman. This paper draws the conclusion that it is the approach of symbolic culture evolvement with the regional social emotion that brings about the overall systematic feature of the culture environment.Lastly, the standpoint of ’Regional Culture Landscape System’ is put forward with the systemic rule of mutation and convergence to explain the special development in the Si-yi Region in modern times. It can be cognized as a whole that the inner leading factor of the constructive achievements is the synergism of motivation of construction and regional culture. The performances of regional culture indicate its adaptive development as well as the mighty force of promoting the regional rural and architecture landscape.
