This article was aiming at discussing relative issues on Daodi Chinese medicinal materials (CMM) including the nature, the features, the formation and the influencing factors of Daodi CMM. The article was composed of general introduction and separate discussion two parts.In the separate discussion part, the article selected two important CMM from each kind of Daodi CMM which were Sichuan Daodi CMM, Guang Daodi CMM, Yun Daodi CMM, Gui Daodi CMM, Huai Daodi CMM, Zhe Daodi CMM, etc. according to<Chinese Daodi CMM> complied by HU Shi-lin. The medication history of these Daodi CMM were studied.In the general introduction part, this article investigated Daodi CMM from the following aspects:1the literature study on the word "Daodi":"Dao" and "di" used as one word begin in Han dynasty. The combination use spread its own separate meaning. In the Southern Song dynasty, the meaning of Daodi which used in Daodi CMM truly began recorded in literature. In Ming dynasty "Daodi" used in medical books means high quality, and the word "Daodi CMM" were formed, this word referred to those CMM produced in some special areas were having better quality than other areas.2conception source of Daodi CMM:Daodi CMM emphasized the importance of the place producing such CMM. In fact, traditional Chinese medicine paid attention to the conception of Daodi CMM originated form the culture tradition of China. Chinese ancient people had realized different place produced different plants since Pro-Qin dynasty. This conception generated huge influence in history, such as the establishment of items offered as tribute institution, and the formation of Daodi CMM later.3developing history of Daodi CMM:the developing history of Daodi CMM was the history of Chinese material medica, which embodied the unceasingly deepgoing understanding of medicines by Chinese ancient people.3.1In Pre-Qin dynasty:our ancestors had formed basic knowledge on medicines, which included the producing place of medicines.3.2In Qin and Han dynasty":the comply of <Shennong’s Herbal> symbolized the establish of Chinese materia medica as a subject. The theory, processing methods and the complying of Chinese formula had all gained developments. Besides,<Shennong’s Herbal> put forward the importance of producing place of medicines. 3.3In Wei and Jin dynasty:Fu-shi promoted the development of Chinese medicnal knowledge. Fu-shi paid important attached to the producing place of medicines.3.4In Southern and Northern dynasty:<collective Notes to Cannon of Materia medica> made another summary of medicines in history. The publish of<Qi Min Yao Su> embodied the great improvement of herbal medicine culture, which laid basic foundation for Daodi CMM.3.5In Sui and Tang dynasty:the areas of medicine producing place were basically divided. In<supplement to Thousand Golden Prescriptions>, medicines were divided into different areas according to the politics regionalization, which was the origin of Daodi CMM later. Besides, there were many records on the producing area of CMM in government laws and local records.3.6In Song dynasty:culture of medicine made relatively huge progress. The first one-medicine discussion book--<Zhangming Fuzi Ji> was complied.3.7In Jin and Yuan dynasty:Doctors like ZHANG Yuan-su made innovations on the studies of medicine theories. They brought out the theories of raising-sinking, meridian-attributing theories to expand the content of Chinese medicinal theories and deepened understandings of Chinese medicines.3.8In Ming dynasty:the name of Daodi CMM was formally appeared. Such word was frequently seen in medical books. In medical books, much information was provided about the producing place of medicines.3.9In Qing dynasty:Daodi CMM was developed prosperously. Besides the discussion and emphasizing of Daodi CMM in medical books, CMM trade of Daodi CMM was also flourishing. CMM trade organizations for Daodi CMM were formed sequently.4the establishment of Daodi CMM:this article believed the time for the establishment of Daodi CMM was in Ming dynasty. Not only because the appearance of Daodi CMM name, but also the specific establishment of special medicine production (the special producing areas of high quality medicine were formed), medicine processing’(decoction pieces were formed in the Ming dynasty), medicine exchanging (medicine economy in the Ming dynasty was highly developed) and medicine usage (Chinese medicine paid attention to the producing place of medicine).5The influencing factors of Daodi CMM:this article held that the formation of Daodi CMM was influenced by7main factors including:species quality, living environment of medicine, TCM theory, agriculture cultivation, technologic producing, commercial trade and political culture influences.6the nature of Daodi CMM:through complete analysis, this article believed the Daodi CMM should have4natures, which were material nature (the essence nature of Daodi CMM), medical nature (evaluation standard of Daodi CMM), culture nature (social significance of Daodi CMM, which can be separated into medicine culture, medicine king culture, and drug market culture) and commercial nature (brand feature of Daodi CMM)...
