On Human’s Transcending In The Experience World

In recent years,Dewey’s philosophy is attached more importance again after a short depression. Its reason,I thought, beside Neo-pragmatists’advocacy, is that Dewey’s philosophy itself pay much attention to concern the living situation of modern people. It’s involved in his thought whose subject matter is on the practice problem especially. Of course, Dewey’s conception of practice is not the same as the definition of the orthodox philosophy that study ethics and politics only. But it is about the concern about the living practice of human being on the ground of the life world. But to him, philosophy should not be restricted to deduce theoretically. It ought to be the centre of inquiring or solving variety praxis problems and conflictions. So his“practice”in fact has broken through the limit of traditional academic moral, and concerned about human being’s experienced integrated living practice directly. For that reason, we think the meaning of his conception of practice has a broad sense that involves all living conditions of man with the end to the good. That is, we should bring to his inquiry to all sorts of practice of human being in the process of living. So, we can get an integrity skeleton of practice philosophy from cognition to living, from practice conduction to moral inquiring. In this perspective, Dewey’s pragmatism should not explain as Instrumentalism or Naturalism with centre of“pragmatic”and“instrument”in the common sense simply, but as practice philosophy with ultimate end to man’s flourish and growth. So, this thesis studies his practice philosophy, tries to clarify its modern meanings and its concern about contemporary living situation. Then, guided with this end, we will clarify three aims about man’s transcendence in experience world: constructing practical intelligence, integrating science and value, and creating of moral good practically. Further then, we would reveal their connection and unification based on man’s practical growth. Then we find out a transformation on living world contained in his philosophy that changed the theoretic logic abided by Metaphysics to practical logic founded on living world, pursuing for eternal Noumenon on the ground of“transcendental Reason”to inquiring practically, freely, which accord with human’s development successfully. That made philosophy as the participator of the living world, but not spectator. Finally, we will find out the sticking point—his appreciation to the validity of experience world and re-explanation to the integrality of human being’s practice and its living meanings. Or we can conclude that he penetrates the gulfs between subject and object, technology and art, practice inquiry and moral value through primary experience, and makes human being in living world have an integrity living meaning. Then after the shine of transcendental Reason and eternal value became gray, he provides a new direction and a fresh reference for the development of human being and its society. These ideas support us a valuable reference on how we deal with the confliction between humanity science and nature science in the view of modernity, between the secularity of physicality and the transcendence of the spirit value in the living world. So, we thought that Dewey’s practice philosophy is a forerunner of west philosophy transformation in 20th.
