With the deepening of China's reform and opening up,the thoughts of John Dewey and Hu Shi are paid more and more attention by the academic circles. There are more researches on John Dewey and Hushi's philosophy, but less on their aesthetics, especially Hushi's.There are few researches on the role of John Dewey's aesthetic thought based on pragmatism philosophy in Hu Shi's aesthetic thought. Therefore, the author tries to make some academic innovation, that is,Hu Shi absorbs and develops his own aesthetic thoughts after learning Dewey's pragmatism philosophy, such as experiential naturalism, experimentalism and experience centered aesthetic thoughts. The core of Hu Shi's experience aesthetics, the idea of common people aesthetics,is the most important theory that Hu Shi developed after learning Dewey's experience aesthetics. With the popular aesthetic thought as the core content,Hu Shi put Dewey's experience aesthetic thought into the vernacular literature, vernacular poetry and aesthetic education thought, and achieved fruitful results in these aspects.Hu Shi's aesthetic thought of common people and the rich achievements of his practice can not only serve as a bridge for cross-strait cultural exchanges, but also serve as a spiritual link between the two sides in terms of history and emotion.John Dewey and Hu Shi are vivid examples of cultural exchanges between China and the United States during the period of the Republic of China. They can also provide an example for cultural exchanges between China and the United States today and in the future.
