Under the background of the stable society and flourishing culture, the works written by Shanghai’s authors during the early and middle period of Qing dynasty had largely overstepped the ones of the past period in quantity, some of which were also remarkable in the academic circles. But until nowadays, there are little systematic and thorough researches to these works in the eyes of Philology. This thesis chose the works of Shanghai authors in the early and middle period of Qing dynasty as the object, meanwhile pay more attention to the rare books of this period.This thesis is concluded by preface, first part, second part and reference books. In the basic of the deeply researches to the local documents of Shanghai and different kinds of categories, this thesis investigated the Shanghai authors, including the migrated and official authors, and different kinds of works in the early and middle period of Qing dynasty for the first time. According to this research, there were690authors and1692works in this period. This thesis also studied the characteristics of these works primarily. Then, by witness of the original books or their photo-offset copies and microfilms, this thesis wrote an annotated bibliography which consists of270rare books. In this bibliography, the version stamps, the primary coverage, the life of authors and the collection information of these books had been recorded. In addition, some edition headstream of these books had been checked up in this bibliography, so that a few errors of some categories could be corrected. Thirdly, during the research to these rare books, some precious materials of masterpieces which had been long times ignored were found. Finally, this thesis inquired the date of birth or death of more than ten authors.
