Studying the ancient novels from the aspect of time is the classic method. The festivals, as a special time nodes in daily life are usually won the favor of the novelist. This paper study "a Dream of Red Mansions" from the aspect of festival. Festivals descriptions, in "a dream of Red Mansions" are different between the former eighty chapters and the other forty chapters. The paper attempts to compare festivals descriptions between the former eighty chapters and the other forty chapters.The introduction part of this thesis, mainly related to the commentary of the present research situation of the subject, the definition and the methods of the research.The first three chapters mainly discuss the former eighty chapters.The first chapter mainly discussed the important meaning of festivals in the daily life description.The second chapter mainly analyzed the festivals description and summarized theirs characteristics. This chapter also discussed how the writer chose the festivals.The third chapter mainly deeply discussed the function of festivals description in the former eighty chapters from three aspects:festivals description and the plot structure, festivals description and image-building, festivals description and the theme.The fourth chapter analyzed the festivals description in the later forty chapters and summarized their characteristics. This chapter compared and analyzed the festivals description in former eighty chapters and that in the later forty chapters. Thus this cheaper made a conclusion that festivals description and in the later forty chapters were wrote by another writer. This chapter provided new evidence that the later forty chapters of "a Dream of Red Mansions" were wrote by another writer.
