Poetic Pursuit

The diversion of spatial theory not only questions and deconstructs the traditional space mode of thinking consisted with binary opposites, but also reconstructs the statement of space with different visions, which has laid the foundation for exploring its further meaning. The interpretation based on space’s point of view integrates subject and object, mind and body, abstract and representation, reality and imagination, which is so receptive that we can break through the shackle of literature style and research models, even step over the bounds of different subjects and logics and by diverse perspective and analysis to reconstruct the research models and extend the horizons of criticism.This thesis tries to apply such spatial recognition to the research of modern Chinese liberalism literature. To interpret the space consciousness of modern Chinese liberalism literature by combining space image of poetry, narrative space of narration, structure space of text, spiritual space of psychology as well as external social reality space and so on. This way of interpretation naturally merges all kinds of modern liberalism literature together, so dose in this thesis that the analysis includes the literature styles such as novel, poetry, essay, drama, reportage and critical literature. The connection of spaces makes these literature styles open to each other and be the supplement to each other. The thesis also analyzes the characteristics of space structure in the modern Chinese liberalism literature works.Modern Chinese liberalism literature shows modern’s pursuit to spiritual liberation and freedom to the greatest extend when expanding literature space. Based on this philosophy, it focuses on the flexibility, unlimitedness and structural convertibility of the space. Firstly is to show the pursuit to spiritual freedom from ideological understanding level and secondly is to show the pursuit to poetic character and state of literature from artistic esthetic level, thus the real freedom of modern Chinese liberalism literature is created.Firstly, the space of modern Chinese liberalism literature consists of dynamic changing and combination. The internal space is established by using the interpretation of space imagery and construct of time and space. The dynamic fragment like singleton space imagery or even vacant and abstract space imagery can reflect the meaning of nature, cultural and artistic esthetic. The time in a novel no longer goes along with the flow of narration but with the special diversion caused by the huge change of nation, race, society and individual in Chinese modern time. Such diversion is obtained not only by using plot and characterization but also by juxtaposing all kinds of space. Secondly, the diversion of space structure in modern liberalism literature has succeeded in reflecting alienation and disenchantment with its’special aesthetic space, which is faithful to the writer’s heart with the reflection of truth and goodness. The change between experience and transcendence is with the effect of alienation and defamiliarizatio. It is the sympathy and focus on experience space; the transcending of secularity and utilitarian; the concern and value to individual as well as the expectation to ideal world.The last but not the least, the space expansion of modern liberalism literature is the transcending of meaning and aesthetic of routine space in real life and the expectation of ideal life Faramita. The special implication and ideality of modern liberalism literature is the aspiration of liberalism spirit, which contains the sincere care about life, the generous, liberal and distinctive independent will and the dynamic vitality. It is also the presentation of the state of life and aesthetic, which is beyond one self and liberty.From macro, medium and micro-levels, the space consciousness in modern liberalism literature shows its dynamic feature, abundant liberty and aesthetic transcendence. All in all, it is because of the poetic characteristic of modern liberalism literature. This thesis aims to explain that the space is not only the place where things happen or only in fixed mode, but also is the product and component of culture and social relations. The meaning of the space refers to people’s existence, ideality and significance.
