In the early 20th century, liberalism is no more strange to intellectuals in China. In the New Culture Movement era, the theory of liberalism, introduced into China originally as a political concept, has gradually found its way into the cultural field and literary creation, when there emerges a revolutionary-cultural camp of proletarians in addition to the already existing capitalists advocating liberalism, against the social background where Marxism is being quickly spread because of the success of the October Revolution in Russia. Against this cultural-political background, Hu Qiuyuan's liberalistic literary thoughts form.We shall judge the dispute of literary liberalism in 1930's in a practical and scientific way. From the objective point of view, under the circumstance of extremely strength time of class fight, it's understandable and also a situation trend that the left-wing writers take the literary as political advocating tool and weapon for class fight, and analyze, criticize and deny the literary liberalism from the sensitive political point of view.But from long term and for the sake of literary development itself, Hu Qiuyuan's thoughts can provide a better condition and motivation for literary development while he observes and orientates literary from the characteristic of literary itself. The literary liberalism dispute in 1930's brings us the hints that the literary can not exist without any relation to politics, but also can not deteriorate to be the symbol of political slogan. Considering the relationship between literary and politics, the most key point is the personnel characteristic independence of the writers, based on which, the literary will be necessarily and surely independently!...
