The whole thesis is divided into three parts, namely introduction, upper and under parts and conclusion. There are totally two parts in Introduction. The former part points out the researches and evaluations on The Principle of Highlighting the Declination of Musical Temperament by various artists. This includes the researches on "Pipe temperament of Xun Su ","Theories on Huai Nan temperament research"" The Principles of Instrument" and " The principle of tone’s structure ". The latter part points out the whole structure of article are based on the scientific principles, synthetically employing Temperament and Philology. At last it provides the first four rolls of The Principle of Highlighting the Declination of Musical Temperament When quoting the literature, Hu would make appropriate adjustments. Consequently, the reasons why Hu has changed the original features of literatures could be obviously observed by comparison and analyses.The upper part concludes the punctuations and emendations in the first four rolls of The Principle of Highlighting the Decination of Musical Temperament. Referring the Si Kit Quan Shu as the edition of master copy and the Qi Xue Zhai edition as the collator, some ineffable words, superior words and wrong words are emended and marked. These two editions list all clauses and sub clauses at the end of the article in order for obviousness. In convenience for searching, the numbers listed in this part are separated into two parts. The one is used as annotations while the other one is used as emendations. The lists are arranged apparently.The under part are analyses and conclusions on Hu’s researching methods of Temperament. The main contents are listed below:1. Qian-Jia’s school of thought and Hu’s knowledge transmitted from his father.The research on the theory of Temperament was unceasing after Zhu’s tremendous discovery combined with the traditional study until the late Qing Dynasty. With the influence of Qian-Jia’s school of thought, the triumph of Hu’s accomplishments results closely from his family study and the free academic atmosphere.2. The understanding of The Principle of Highlighting the Declination of Musical Temperament and its science of historical data.Hu elaborated the profound principles of Temperament in order to commend the sense of declines on temperament. With his attitudes of finding by hard and thorough search, he expressed the academic concepts on Temperament. This embodies a higher study level.3. The theoretical research on The Principle of Highlighting the Declination of Musical Temperament.Firstly, Hu holds the opinion of#F(Rui Bin) reascending, appreciating the explanation of it by yin and yang. Secondly, Hu stands at the point that the seven sounds rotate unceasingly in twelve equal temperaments. Thirdly, Hu thinks seven temperaments relate closely to seven constellations and government affairs. Moreover, Hu thinks whether the Hou Qi could be examined is strongly relates to the accuracy of pipe, calendar and time. No political affairs at all in it.4. The applicable Temperament researches onThe Principle of Highlighting the Declination of Musical Temperament.Hu’s views of pipe emphasises the authentic function of pipe in not instrument but orthometry. He criticised Qiling Mao, Bangqi Han, Zuo Huang and Zhu etc. Hu admires The Temperament of Zither very much and considers that it is dramatically valuable than Zhongru Chen’s theory, Kui Jiang’s picture and Zhu’s zither theories in History of Song Dynasty. It represents his own distinct point of views. In addition, Hu thinks it is not necessary to divide string length by setting the pillars. The bamboo pipe is able to harmonize the sound.In conclusion part, Hu’s scholarship is influenced by his family study and his academic attitudes of exploiting the origins. This had laid the foundation of his accomplishments. Also, it is worthwhile for latter generations to require his thoughts of thinking highly of both literature and instrumental practice.
