The Effect Of Dynamic Highlighting On The Performance Of Visual Search And Its Effective Factors

Highlighting is one of the most important display techniques in the researches of the effectiveness of visual information.The era of Internet had brought large amount of information,however,it was hard for traditional highlighting to highlight the most important information among the others.So a new technique should be proposed to meet the need in reality.A novel technique--Dynamic highlighting--which could prioritize highlight the most important information among the others depend on the task or targets feature in a visual search task in order to promote the efficiency,had been development in the research.First of all,this research tests the validity of dynamic highlighting,and then tests how memory load and time pressure influence the new technique.Three experiments consisted of this study: experiment 1 tests the validity of dynamic highlighting;experiment 2 explored how memory load effect dynamic highlighting;experiment 3 inspected how time pressure effect dynamic highlighting.At last,several advices were proposed for complicated visual search interface under the consideration of the traits form that three research of dynamic highlighting.Five conclusions draw form this study:(1)In a multi-targets visual search,when there’s no need to distinguish the significance of different targets,use traditional highlighting,otherwise choose dynamic highlighting.(2)Dynamic highlighting is efficacious in a multi target of different degree of significance visual search.(3)Compared to traditional highlighting,memory load probably had less effect on dynamic highlighting in short-term.(4)Compared to traditional highlighting,time pressure probably had less effect on dynamic highlighting in short-term.(5)Compared to traditional highlighting,dynamic highlighting is more effective in short-term,and more stable.
