The thesis discusses and analyses the processes of revolutionary steps of Sichuan Opera in twentieth century, The total three points of time (the Opera Revolution Campaign before the May4th Movement, the Opera Reform generated by central government in1950s and the Sichuan Opera Promotion implemented by Sichuan government after1980s) divides this history of the development of Sichuan Opera Music into3varying periods. As regards the first,5typical tones, the gong and drum of Sichuan Opera and the history of its accompanies (with musical instruments) was discussed primarily in the article. By analyzing the relevant historical literatures and references, it has rectified the traditional widely-admissive opinions of5tones is actually a kind of Sichuan Opera Music with its modern significance which was formed in the early twentieth century. Simultaneously, the article elaborates the reasons of the forms of Sichuan Opera. With the influence of the capitalism in semi-feudal and semi-colonial society in Sichuan and the urbanization and commercialization of art, several different tones of Sichuan Opera have flowed together, shaping the modern Sichuan Opera. In the second period of history, the article discusses the modernization of Sichuan Opera after the establishment of a new nation by analyzing its developments and revolutions of its tones and accompanying music. Moreover, the article describes the picture of new life in socialism by the "new formations" and some all new policies such as "the Revolution of Opera","the policy of getting rid of the state and bringing forth the fresh" etc. After moving its patterns to the western music, Sichuan Opera has put its step to the way of music drama and western opera. The destination was established after the "Cultural Revolution". In the last period of history, the article discusses that with the impacts of market economy and modern fashionable culture, Sichuan Opera has moved deeply to a new orientation of "Western, Big and Comprehensive" after the reform and opening up policy. Its transmission system and transmission channel are changed, resulting in Sichuan Opera music of living environment and cultural properties encountered enormous challenges. The last chapter of the thesis reviews and summarizes the basic course in the change of the Sichuan Opera in hundred years. It discusses "five systematic tunes flowing together" which is not the Sichuan Opera music but the invention of tradition. Affected by the hundred years to pursue the western "Modernity" of social thought, Sichuan opera music is in a process of western music culture "acculturation". At the same time, starting from its value of "non-material cultural heritage", the article mentions the relevant problems of its protection, development and unique cultural value.
