On The History Of Chinese Characters Reform During The End Of Qing Dynasty To The Founding Of New China(1892-1949)

Half a century, from the late Qing Dynasty to the founding of New China, the Chinesesociety has undergone a vigorous character reform movement, which deeply touching manyof the core issues of language，expanding the traditional philology, phonology, dialectology,grammar study areas, and promoting the course of the modern science of linguistics，withsignificant academic value and application value. Thorough and systematic research on thehistory of Chinese characters Reform is an urgent need to build scientific history of Chinesecharacters.At the same time, it relates to the development and implementation of the languagepolicy, language, application and specification of many practical problems. Systematicallycombing previous history and exploring the lessons is the need of deepening the research onlanguage ontology, and also the important foundation of the current Chinese modernization.So far, a comprehensive, objective history of reform of Chinese characters is still blank,this article intends to make a preliminary attempt.By means of introduction, historical,thematic treatises on the reform of Chinese characters, with reference to the then newspaper,periodical, a post, the resolutions of the meeting, government documents, letters, notes andother scattered data, in accordance with the mainstream form of exercise, is divided intorelevant series, by using a combination of law and comparative analysis, collation andresearch in accordance with the time sequence respectively, and to write a certain historicalvalue and theoretical value in the history of the reform of Chinese characters.The article is divided into five main sections:First, the movement of Qieyin characters: Systematically introducing each of their plansand efforts for society pushing with the background of the times. From many aspects such asthe people’s degree of psychological acceptance，the education object’s composition，Fundssource，the actual use after learning and Social attitude and so on，Dialectically investigatetransmission effect of the phonetic Chinese alphabet and deeply analysis a series of theoryand practice problem such as nature and function of involving Chinese characters in themovement，Chinese characters’ complexity and advantage，the opposition and uniformity ofmandarin dialect，the disruption and consistent of the language，the deepen and shallow outof phonetic Chinese alphabet’s the solutions，the traditional culture’s inheritance and discardedand so on. Second, Phonetic alphabet campaign: Comb the core of the problem in theory and majorpractice problems in the process of making phonetic letters. Investigate the socialimplementation of the phonetic alphabet and the revision and improvement of the systemitself after it officially released. Analyze the deep reason of phonetic alphabet for its long-timeand academic enlightenment.Third, simplified characters movement: Settle the simplified characters movement fromthe aspects of theory, table and social implementation. Analyze the positive significance andfar-reaching problems left over of the simplified characters movement.Forth, Mandarin Romanization movement: Study the details about the braking processand long-term theory of the Mandarin Romanization as well as a variety of programdevelopment. Interpreting the society general situation of Mandarin Rome words, social andacademic factors that hard to push. Analyze the historical significance and influence of themovement.Fifth, the Latinized new character Movement: Comb the Latinized new character andimplementing in foreign research. Introduce the theory of propaganda and public opinion athome after the build and carry out a comprehensive situation. Investigate the historicalsignificance and limitations of Latinized New Writing movement.To build the reform history of Chinese characters, we need a macro point of view,rational thinking and unique perspectives. There are many shortcomings in the article becauseof my limited knowledge and energy.And I will continue to make correction andimprovement.
