Quanzhou City locates in southeastern Fujian Province, and the local dialect is Souhern Min dialect. This thesis studies the development of several grammatical items in Quanzhou dialect from Ming dynasty to the present based on two earlier play scripts both written in Southern Min:Li Ting.Ji(荔镜记) and Man Tian Chun(满天春).This thesis includes four chapters.Chapter 1 introduces the previous researches correlated with issues of our study and outlines the theoretical framework.Chapter 2 is devoted to the grammatical distribution and the development of three double-object Give verbs [kh(?)(乞), [th(?)](度), [hai](还) in Ming dynasty play scripts. Furthermore, this chapter also elucidates the lexical sources of other Give verbs in modern Southern Min.Chapter 3 focuses on the usages of 19 major types of [se]会/[tit]得 constructions expressing epistemic possibility. Furthermore, this chapter elucidates the possible grammatical ization chains of 8 types of these constructions(会得V,会V得,会V得C、袂得V,袂V得,袂V得C,V袂C,V袂得).Chapter4 analyses other usages of 得 and their successors in modern Quanzhou dialect.
