Marx’s revolution in philosophy or Marx’s philosophical revolution is a common term in Marxism philosophy institute. It is used to represent Marx’s including of his cooperators, supporters and successors’ revolutionary contributions in philosophy. There are two fundamental approaches for studying Marx’s revolution in philosophy: one is to explore what kind of philosophical revolution has Marx achieved; the other one is to explore why his philosophy has achieved a philosophical revolution. The two approaches form an organic whole of the study on Marx’s revolution in philosophy. In this theory field, Marxism philosophy paid more attention to the first issue than the second one. The existence of Marx’s revolution in philosophy is the premise of the study on its nature, therefore we have to clarify whether the idea of Marx’s revolution in philosophy refers to a real historical event or not, and get to the bottom of the reason why people elucidate Marxism philosophy with the idea of revolution. The two approaches do not running in the opposite directions; they have the same goal.In the achievements of the study on Marx’s revolution in philosophy, the words and sentences used to review the revolution and the wording of scientific revolutions are the same. The reason of the case is that we don’t have specialized terms to review a philosophical revolution, and the terms of scientific revolutions which were created by historians of science is the only tool to review revolutions in thought. Therefore we have to investigate the idea of Marx’s revolution in philosophy through the idea of scientific revolutions. Kant’s, Kuhn’s and I. B. Cohen’s viewpoints and theories will shape the idea of scientific revolutions. The analysis on the idea of Marx’s revolution in philosophy can be broke up into three parts: the analysis on the idea of Marx, philosophy and revolution.Lavoisier, Darwin or Wegener said expressly that his own work would create arevolution in chemistry, biology or earth science; many contemporaneous witnesses said that Newton would create a revolution in science, notwithstanding Newton himself said nothing about this. However, Marx never said expressly that he intended to create a revolution in philosophy, and the contemporaneous supporters and opponents said little about his philosophical thinking. The term Marx’s revolution in philosophy appeared in the late 1930 s as early as possible. These characteristics are very different from the characteristics of scientific revolutions. In Butterfield’s words, it is a Whig interpretation of history when we interpret some Marx’s thinking as a philosophical revolution.Marx didn’t establish traditional philosophical theory, but one viewpoint is that the materialist conception of history is Marx’s philosophical theory. However, this theory is not only different from traditional philosophy in form, but also includes the view that opposing philosophy per se. So people just used the term philosophical revolution to explain this kind of anomaly. This is a vicious circle when it points out that Marx has philosophical theory and realizes philosophical revolution with materialist conception of history, or when it explain that materialist conception of history is a kind of philosophical theory with philosophical revolution, unless that Marx realized the philosophical revolution and the revolution in the view of philosophy simultaneously. That is to say, materialist conception of history as a new philosophical theory defeated the old materialism and idealism, and realized the philosophical revolution. Because Marx realized the revolution in the view of philosophy simultaneously, so the materialist conception of history is different from all traditional philosophy on target, property and function. But philosophical revolution and revolution in the view of philosophy cannot happen logically simultaneously. It is a philosophical revolution that materialism replaces idealism, but they all concern with the same philosophical questions, so there is no revolution in the view of philosophy.According to materialist conception of history, philosophy is not science but ideology. It is a revolution in the view of philosophy to change people’s view of philosophy. But it’s difficult for people to recognize a philosophical revolution without a stable view of philosophy.Any revolution needs to undergo a process of occurrence, development and accomplishment; the ideological field is no exception. So it is clearly impossible that theMarx’s revolution in philosophy has been achieved in Marx’s unfinished or unpublished works. More importantly, Marx’s revolution in philosophy is not yet implemented as a revolution in the sense of neither Kant nor Kuhn. Because philosophy itself is still in a state of groping about in Kant’s words or pre-paradigm in Kuhn’s words until now. There are still lots of factions in philosophy. More than one faction claimed to achieve a philosophical revolution. The achievement of philosophical revolution means that a philosophical position dominant in the whole field of philosophy. Obviously, such a revolution has never happened in the history of philosophy. The purpose of analyzing the idea of Marx’s revolution in philosophy is not to negate the achievements of the nature of Marx’s revolution in philosophy, on the contrary, people always pay attention to the nature firstly in the study of the scientific revolutions. These achievements have shaped the idea of Marx’s revolution in philosophy, and have constituted a prerequisite with the time to analyze the idea. They are also the logical premise of realizing Marx’s revolution in philosophy. It is the historical mission of the believers and supporters of Marxism philosophy to realize Marx’s revolution in philosophy. In order to fulfill this mission, we must recognize this mission clearly and analyze the idea of Marx’s revolution in philosophy. If we want to complete the Marx’s revolution in philosophy, we must recognize that it is not completed. The real meaning of analyzing the idea of Marx’s revolution in philosophy is to complete the revolution authentically.
