Research On Comparison Of Russianï¹ Chinese Aspectual Semantic Means Of Expression

This thesis goes beyond the traditional grammatical category of aspect and adopts the theories from traditional Russian Functional Grammar and aspectual functional semantics. By analyzing the original Russian version of Quiet Flows the Don and its two Chinese translations, we try to improve and construct Russian and Chinese aspectual functional semantic fields. This paper makes a systematic comparison between different semantic expressions of aspects in Russian and Chinese and explores their differences in terms of specific event, specific fact, and progressive expressions.After comparison, this thesis confirms the typological differences of Russian-Chinese grammatical aspectual category. Russian grammatical aspectual category, whose verbal aspect choice is compulsory, belongs to prototype aspectual category. Its aspectual semantic expression is mainly reflected by grammatical aspectual forms, and assisted by the means of lexical meanings of verbs, the action mode of verbs, aspectual semantic structural models, aspectual semantic construction, and discourse type. On the contrary, Chinese grammatical aspectual category doesn’t belong to prototype aspectual category, whose verbal aspect choice isn’t necessarily compulsory. Its major aspetual semantic means of expression come not only from grammatical forms, but also from lexical semantics, word-formation, syntactic structures and discourse types.The comparisons in the thesis are based on the advanced theory of aspectology. Meanwhile, it introduces some concepts from logic, such as event and fact. It also distinguishes between two aspectual variant meanings(specific event and specific fact) from the perspective of communicative semantic structures of sentence. Specific event meaning, pointing to ontology in the objective world, reports and narrates specific events in the objective world from the addressee. Accordingly, specific fact meaning, pointing to the consciousness of man’s subjective world, shows the speaker’s logic judgment, reasoning and expectant fact modal interesting him or her. There are no such studies in China that compare the aspectual semantic means of expression between Russian and Chinese.The major contributions of this thesis are as follows:(1) Improving and constructing three Russian-Chinese sub-fields, including progrssive aspectual semantic, specific event aspectual semantic and specific fact aspectual semantic.(2) Summerizing and constructing a series of aspectual semantic structural models and aspectual semantic constructions, and demonstrating the corresponding relation between them, as well as their aspectual semantic expressing function.
