This thesis is originated from the current national image problems in the field of literature and art. It includes a main problem which is the relationship between literary image and politics.There are two absolutely opposite researches in the current situation.Qne research pays more attention to unload the political factors of literary images and makes image be a purely aesthetic phenomenon.Another study tends to expand political connotation of literary image then literary image is seen as an outward manifestation of cultural power. In fact,both researches have not clarified the reasonable connection between literature and politics and blurs the truth which literary image creates. And the latter research which actually has its shape in the 1950 s in China is especially commoner and more popular. The image theories in the 1950 s is selected as an analyzing case Since they form the general picture of Politics of Image and has the founding significance in the history of Chinese contemporary literary theories.Then we can take the history as a mirror and research on Politics of Image and think about the relationship between the literary image and politics.For this purpose, the subject has made the following arrangement:In the introduction part.It is mainly about the origin of the research,the related research status, the research object and the methods and the value of the study. It has to be mentioned that the inner causes why literary image combines with politics are considered in this part while analyzing the reasons of researching on the image theories in 1950 s.The main part includes Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, Chapter 4.It takes the four kinds of literary image theories in the 1950 s as the research approach which is from history to concrete propositions and the essence.The study reveals how different literary image theories turn image into political image from their views. The details are as follow:Chapter 1 Theory of Image Features:the Theoretical Basis of Turning Literary Image into Political Image.Theory of Image Features is the basis of the theory of literary image in which literary image is as the feature of literature, but in fact it is not the realcharacteristics of literary theory while investigating its argumentation.The reason is that the ideology controls the features. So selecting image for the feature that actually opens the path to Politics of Image. And it is the foundation of other literary image theories.Chapter 2 Theory of Thinking by Image:the Thinking Way of Turning Literary Image into Political Image.Theory of Thinking by Image discusses about the thinking rules of literary image. But through the study of Theory of Thinking by Image, it is not the thought about the unique artistic thinking for literary image but the worldview is above the way of thinking by image. As a result, the mind controls image that provides image with a political mode of thinking.Chapter3 Theory of Typification: the Creating Way of Turning Literary Image into Political Image. Theory of Typification is mainly about typification which explores the creation of literary image. Although it emphasizes typification which is to highlight the unique creating way of literary image.But when investigating the different discussion,we may found that it is really not the speciality of its creation but it sticks to principles of party.Chapter 4 Theory of New Men: the Model Form of Turning Literary Imagesinto Political Images. Theory of New Men directly derives from the political field. It is a consistent with Theory of Image Features, Theory of Thinking by Image, Theory of Typification, Theory of New Men.Thus it has also become an image theory.Specifically,it becomes a theory for Politics of Image and provides the image creation with the political model.The conclusion part mainly talks about the conflicts between literary image and politics which based on the research of image theories in the 1950 s and which combined with practical work and criticism. The conflicts between literary image and politics is mainly manifested in human nature expressing conlliding with class identification,self-discipline of emotion conlliding with revolutionary logic, rhetoric differance conficting with ideological teaching.The study which researches on the literary image theories in the 1950 s and which can expand research on Politics of Image is valuable.Firstly,it suggests that Politics of Image which is only from the view of politics and based on theories and methods of political science to promote literary image and politics combinating is inappropriate. Secondly, to provide a new view for better understanding the Chinese contemporary literary theorysince the 1950 s. Thirdly, to put forward Politics of Image can make the theoretical research on the relationship between literary image and politics more clearly.
