Because of the unique artistic styles, many artists and masterpiece in various artistic fields in the ancient time are respected by people. They made new contribution to the history of art. Pursuing original style is always the aim of creators, and discussing the theory of style is the hot topic of theory researchers. At present, the study on ancient artistic style is mainly concentrated in the specific study or cohort study of arts, but the systematic study of ancient style about different kinds of arts as a whole from the macroscopic level is still missing up to now. Based on this, the comprehensive study of common issues of ancient artistic style from the macroscopic level is very important and necessary.The formation of ancient artistic style systematically analyzes and studies the reason for the formation of ancient artistic style. This dissertation believes that there is an intercommunity between the formation of the style and the cause of things happened, so the formation of style can be thought from three dimensions:place, time and people. The so-called artistic style refers to the stable and unique overall style and artistic characteristics that creative subject wants to show in his works in terms of the unity of content and form under the specific period and environment. Therefore, it proposes that the geographical environment, the epoch’s circumstance and the creation subject are the major causes of the formation of style. The artistic style is the result of joint action.The type of ancient artistic style is the study which mainly focuses on the types of ancient artistic style from the perspective of typology. Based on the summary of the developing of the type theories of ancient artistic style, it can be found that the tendency of the categorization among the various artistic style, divided into different perspective, the style type is also different. Thus, the paper proposes that the basic types of ancient artistic style can be defined from "Xing", "Yi", "Wen", "Fa" and "Qi" as the following:concise and rhetoric, implicit and straightforward, plain and gorgeous, rigorous and wild, feminine and masculine, in order to realize the overall view of the ancient artistic style from multiple aesthetic perspectives.The characteristics of ancient artistic style mainly focuses on the general characteristics and the appraise characteristics of ancient artistic style. This dissertation supposes that the general characteristics are the common characteristics of various kinds of arts, and any artistic styles must have the following basic characteristics:uniqueness, diversity, stability, variability and belonging. Appraise characteristics of ancient artistic style in this paper are summarized basing on the great attention of ancient people for style judgment. Generally, they adopted the criticism mode of "metaphor with objects" and "classification and rank" to evaluate the style of artists and works, this is the reason for the formation of unique national discourse system. The symbolization and classification of style appraisal show ancient people’s unique view and aesthetic interest for acknowledging and understanding the characteristics of style.The development of ancient artistic style mainly studies the rule, path and the influence on later creation of ancient style. The dissertation supposes that the continuous heritage and development of ancient artistic style is in accordance with dialectics, which refers to "Tongbian". The creators in different time are always adhere to comply the development path of "studying the ancient", "studying the external nature" and "studying the heart of themselves", all of which promote the artistic style continuously developing while maintaining the historical inheritance. This paper has realized that the ancient artistic style necessarily have an effect on the later creation, and the longer the time is, the more the style are, the more resources and typical paradigm can be provided to the future generation. Inspired by Gu Jiegang’s "pile-up theory", this dissertation supposes that the influence of ancient artistic style on later creation showing a "pile-up" momentum. It develops through the content and form, and embodies in the derivative and evolution of content and the continuation and development of form.
