This paper introduces the headspring and the modal diversification of the signs from ancient era to current information times. Through this basic study about the modal evolvement of china signs, we want to afford people with some new revelation and idea for creating modern signs containing more time spirit and ethos. Using the developmental history of sign as index, we discuss the form, evolvement and character of the signs on their modal, from the point of the social and scientific advancement, the influence of the politics and economy. This paper contains five parts as following: First section introduces the sign for remembering thing and totem before the creation of characters, in order to probe into the headspring of the sign and influence of the primitive human and the necromancy used in combat with nature during the remote antiquity. Second section discusses in detail some kinds of modal signs in ancient time in Chinese, and their evolvement under the influence of the social development and technological advancement. With the prolificacy development and the social wealthy increase, the cause for the appearance of sign is transformed from the need for remembering thing to the self-conscious commerce deed. Furthermore, the meaning and the extension of signs were developed with the convenience brought by the invention of the typography. Third section describes that trademark was influenced by the battles in modern history since 1980, including the foreign brand during the period of the Opium War and ethno-industry of our country. The conception of the trademark appeared at first time in this period, and in fact the modern modal sign is the result of the development of the trademark. Forth section describes the multifarious modal signs in modern times from the planned economy era to the reform and opening times. Signs are not only the marks but also the extra-value and enterprise culture of the products, which indicate the value conception and spiritual pursue of people. Purchase of consumers have become the satisfaction in spirit and the taste in fashion in addition to the need of material, moreover design of the trademark indicate the visual wallop and feel ascription. Signs have been exceed to traditional conception and become the prevalent symbol and come into a new trade times including service and shape in the range of enterprises, schools, governments, societies, souvenirs, commemorations etc. In last section, we discuss the importance and advantage of sign for the development of the national culture in international and global times, which need to refer to our traditional calligraphies and stamps and derive nutrition from lucky signs and primitive arts and ancient philosophy of our country. Not only our ancient and national culture are the originality of the modern signs, but also it is our responsibility to progress our national spirit and personality and to compete with other countries in world and to exhibit Chinese culture in new history times. In a word, based on the relative theories and studies and applying the aesthetics, history, consumption, psychics, and standpoint and method of Marxism, we research the modal evolvement of china signs at all time and at points of economy, culture, philosophy, arts and so on, in order to know about the social background and phylogeny of china signs and to understand the prime of our traditional arts again, in order to enrich the figures and to boost up the modernity and internationality for the design and creation of sign.
