From the perspective of thoughts and social interaction, this study discusses the relationship between bureaucrats’ethical views and society in the Western Han Dynasty, with the combination of the logical order and the natural history order, theory interpretation with text explanation.Chapter one mainly illustrates that at the late Qin Dynasty and the early Western Han Dynasty, under the influence of "Be a Great Man" and the idea of "Great Deeds", people were enthusiastic to make contributions and pursue for high social status. However, the prince kings with different family names took Liu Bang as the nominal emperor in China, and saw themselves as "Vassal King". They such ethical thought were quite different with the imperial thinking, which proposed by Liu himself. Because of the dislocation between the emperor and officials, it is not surprising that prince kings with different family names were overthrown finally.From the perspective of the covenant, Chapter two illustrates the ethical orientation of the officials of great merit, which was the main body of the bureaucrats, among the emperor and officials in the early Western Han Dynasty, the standard of value of the officials of great merit and its influence on the political framework.Chapter three focuses on the adjustment of the bureaucrats’role under the Western Han autocratic emperor and its influence on the bureaucrats and the society. With the role switching from the official of great merit to the official of the country, the opinion of values of the bureaucrats also changes from military successes to the emperor’s will and fading political being. Fulfilling of duties became the main stream of their behavior choices. The arbitrament of values also switched from the military to the emperor.Chapter four mainly focuses on the development and change of the opinion of value of the bureaucrats and ethical orientation under the studies of Confucian classics after the respect of Confucianism in middle and late Western Han Dynasty.Focusing on the relationship between the bureaucrats and the populace in Western Han Dynasty, Chapter five discusses the bureaucrats’ethical orientation and adjustment in the interaction with populace and its influence on society. Chapter six makes a conclusion of the development of the ethical orientation and the opinion on values between the Western Han bureaucrats and the imperial power. From the perspective of the interaction between thoughts and society, this study emphasizes the significant influence of the class ethics view in Western Han bureaucrats on the society since then.
