Education was not only the original intention of the founder of modern Olympic Movement, but also the heading marker which guided the Olympic Movement. However, only few expert tried to make a research on the develop process of Olympic education. The origin, meanings and the changes of Olympic education was an issue which could not be avoided in this area. In addition, the research on the involvement of Olympic education, which was meaningful to the reformation of Olympic Movement, was also to recognize its past, evaluate its current situation, and analyze its future in the view of education.This thesis has adopted the method of history study, documentary information, expert interview and case study to analyze the historical evolvment of the Olympic education and reached the following conclusions:1 Olympic education is an educational activity that has been carried out to meet the demand of international society to promote the balanced overall development of human being, enhance the harmonious progress of society and advance world peace. It takes the athletic sports as the basic vehicle and the environment in a native country as the condition.2 The development and the evolvement of the olympic education has been divided in this thesis into three periods during which international society had provided different resources while at the same time expected diversely. The Olympic education got power to develop itself in those interactions.3 In the nation-state forming period, two world wars broke out as a result of western countries’s colonial expansion. Olympic education assembled the young people worldwide in Olympics to exchange ideas with the purpose in the form of the Olympic Games to realize ethical peace, (?)hich had not only found the educational value out of sport, but. combined with other forms of art to function in a physical, moral and aesthetical way. The principle organization was IOC. The object to be educated was amateur athletes and took them as good examples to form a demonstration effect.4 During the cold war the pattern of two opposing groups headed by America and Soviet Union respectively had taken shape. the Olympic education realized a tolerance between different ideologies and ethical groups by means of spreading Olympic ideas. The participating of Soviet Union in the Olympic Games had also brought the ideological dispute in it, thus making the Olympic education complicated and difficult to play its educational role, which caused the separation of Olympic education. Olympic training and research in the IOA benefited a deep understanding and dissemination. The main organization changed from the IOC to IOA. The direct object to be educated expanded from excellent athelets to the common youth.5 During the globalization time when international society turned to concern the culturel differences, the Olympic education had enhanced people’s understanding and respect of cultural diversity through training virtuous cosmopolites so as to realize international cooperation and peace. On one hand, the Olympic Games had developed into a grand physical and culture gathering in the world without equal which held abundant educational resources. What else, it had promoted the Olympic education. And on the other hand, due to the intervention on Olympic education of international politics and economy, the non-Olympic Games’s Olympic education developed diversely. The structure of its organizations and institutions had developed from simple to complex. The educated object had further expanded from Olympic athletes and common young people to school students.
