International Political Economy Paradigm Research

The academia of China and foreign countries in contemporary era consider unanimously that the deputy between contructivism and rationalism will be the last part of deputy about international political economy, so more and more scholars of international political economy lost faith in the traditional paradigm and turn to issue research. Then, what is the problem that the research on international political economy paradigm in contemporary era is faced with? Are there any research achievements or shortcomings in the international political economy study in contemporary era? Where are the objective and path of the shift and revolution for the international political economy paradigm in contemporary era? How to connsider the historical status of pluralism paradigm din moment recently in international political economy? How to construct international political economy paradigm with domestic characristics to serve political and economic development needs for their homeland? To answer such questions, the theory about paradigm must be concerned. The article focuses on the research in international political economy paradigm theory, not want to stop at the subject of international political economy in general details. As the concept "paradigm" itself has been questioned more and more, the international political economy paradigm revolution is reasonably one of the difficulties in the article.As the logical starting point of international political economy paradigm theory, the first two chapters of the article list systematically from vertical point the context of international political economy paradigm construction from the point of disciplinary construction, and then make a horizontal comment on three mainstream international political economy paradigms. Based on the knowledge spectrum of above parts, the two chapters in the middle of the article apply the relevant critical theory to critique in depth the traditional paradigms of international political economy; applying the relevant theory of comparative political economy, the article compares comprehensively the different traditional paradigms of international political economy. Based on the traditional paradigm theory, the last two chapters of the article specially make a horizontal comment on the possibility to construct pluralism paradigm of international political economy in accordance with basic trends of paradigm shift in international political economy; according to the research status of Chinese School, the article specially makes a number of important conclusions that related to the construction of international political economy paradigm with Chinese characteristics.As the first part, "introduction" involves six aspects:the background, objective and positive significance of the research topic, the framework, mothod and the new ideas of the analysis in the article. The article holds that traditional paradigm theory of Western international political economy lag day by day behind the developing trend of the international situation, and the Spring-warring States period is coming for the pluralism of international political economy paradigm. The author pays more attention to the reflection and even the critic to mainstream paradigms of international political economy. Before a new formation of international political economy paradigm exmerges as the mainstream of international political economy paradigm, the specialized research on international political economy paradigm theory has both theoretical value and practical significance. The paradigm perspective of the article has both the vertical stage dimension and the horizontal structure dimension, both the in-depth paradigm critic and the comprehensive paradigm comparison. The main research method for the article is politic-economy method, while politics method and economics method are assisted. Based on the analysis of advantages and shortcomings of pluralism of international political economy, how to construct international political economy paradigm with Chinese characteristics will be the focus for the article to seek international political economy paradigm innovation.The main part of the article has six chapters, and the following is a brief description of these chapters:ChapterⅠ"Subject discussion on international political economy" discusses the development context and paradigm structure of international political economy. The article holds that there are mainly four trends related to the contemporary international political economy:First, the traditional models will be integrated with the emerging models in the international political and economic system, which will result in the pluralism of disciplinary paradigm; Second, based on interdisciplinary, the politics science and economics science will be counterpoised and blended furtherly in international political economy; Third, by economic globalization trend, the research will be shifted from traditional political economy to the international level; Forth, based on the "counter-nationalization trends", the "global political economy" paradigm revolution will be completed finally.ChapterⅡ"Mainstream of international political economy paradigm" discusses the three major paradigms of international political economy, such as the reality theory paradigm, the liberal theory paradigm, and the Marxist theory paradigm, and the deputy on subject mainstream among various international political economy theories. The article holds that some contemporary Western powers persist always on double standards, which advocate the propaganda of the neo-liberalism theory, but pursue in practice the neo-realism policy, while the criticism on the two theories gives birth to the neo-Marxism theory.ChapterⅢ"Critics on the international political economy paradigm theory" analyses the international political economy critical theory, criticizes the Western international political economy paradigm, and discusses the application on critic theory of international political economy in China. The article holds that contemporary Western traditional paradigms of international political economy, especially the paradigm theories of neo-realism and neo-liberalism with many shortcomings, are difficult to be applied to history school and problems school or other schools of international political economy paradigms with Chinese characteristics, so self-reliance is the only way to construct "Chinese characteristics" for the Chinese academic community.ChapterⅣ"Comparative study in international political economy" analyses the paradigm application of Western comparative political economy study, the traditional paradigm of international political economy, the comparative research among accdemia in contemporary era, and the diputes in traditional international political economy. The article holds that the three traditional paradigms of international political economy have respectively their own advantages and disadvantages, pluralism paradigm compromises to the three trsditional paradigms will be the main trend about the paradigm shift of contemporary international political economy.ChapterⅤ"Possibility to construct multi-paradigm of international political economy" analyses the development space, the theory tools, the struvture designing, and the institutional practice of pluralism paradigm. The article holds that pluralism is only a transitional paradigm of the international political economy which can not develop a long time, how to overcome the simple pluralism and technical eclecticism level limitations will be the main issue the pluralism paradigm must be faced to.ChapterⅥ"Chinese characteristics paradigm of international political economy" analyses the research status of international political economy with Chinese characteristics, the influence of Western international politics economy paradigm in China’s academia, and how to construct an international political economy with Chinese characteristics. The article holds that the paradigm construction of international political economy for China school should consider Marxist paradigm as the principle part, while supplemented by the Western paradigms, such as realism paradigm and liberalism paradigm, and stands on the positions of developing countries and the proletariat, which is commited to offer advices and suggestions for the peaceful rise with the Chinese nation.As the last part, "Introduction" makes a brief summary on the deadline of the article: First is a summary that focused on the vital of the basic argument and sub-arguments of the article according to the main content of the upper six chapters, and argues that the word "paradigm" desighed by Kuhn is indeed a certain degree of relatively postmodern conception; Second is the account of the theory space that proposed to be further explored according to the subject related to the article, such as the latest development of a lot of emerging post-modern paradigms, which makes the theory integration of interdisciplinary subject that related to international political economy needs for timely to be updated; Third is the prospect on the directions of the further research on the paradigms of the article, such as some old models existed before soverignty state model emerged, city-princes model, feudal empire model, religion-secular compound model, etc, would be referenced in the future during the procedure of constructuring international political economy paradigm; Last is the account of possible shortcomings of the article, such as the comprehensive study is not systemic enough, the economic perspective is not completed enough, or the philosophical speculation is not deep enough, and the different conclusions to contemporary China’s national conditions lead to a lot of serious differences that the paradigm construction of international political economy with Chinese characteristics is forced to face to.
