Signal intersection is the important part of the urban road. How it worksfreely or not decides the state of the urban traffic is good or not directly.The paper reviews the current situation of the signal control system、trafficcapacity and emulation of the signal intersection at home and abroad, andanalyzes their merits and drawbacks,then bring out the subject——Study on thedouble-crossing of signal controlled based on the characteristics of drivers.The paper brings out the definition of the double-crossing of signal controlledand analyze the influence factors of the signal controlling principle and trafficcapacity of signal intersection, and builds the model of traffic capacity aboutthe double-crossing of signal controlled based on the characteristics of drivers,then inspect and verify the model through emulation technique and analysis ofcases.The subject studied has an important role to master the operating principlesof the double-crossing of signal controlled and to optimize the running situationof urban traffic and to realize sustainable development of the city. It alsohas academic meaning to extend the theory and methodology of the trafficengineering territory.The research results of this paper are above:1.The paper brings out a new type of intersection——the double-crossingof signal controlled that have four types:cross(above)+cross(below)、cross(above)+circle(below)、circle(above)+circle(below);2.The paper describes the trip route of drivers using the principle of systemengineering based on analyzing the characteristics of drivers and guides driverschoosing correct trip route through the messages of VMS; 3.The paper breaks through the issue about the resources of time and space.The paper brings out the principle of comprehensive utilization about theresources of time and space and increases the utilization efficiency of theresources of time and space about signal intersection.4.The paper brings out a new control principle——the ganged control theoryabout the double-crossing of signal controlled. The signal of the crossing ofbelow and above are ganged control and it has a special phase position programand keeps the continuity of traffic in the crossing. The paper also analyzesthe opportunity of the message converting detailedly.5.On the base of analyzing the influencing factors about traffic capacityof intersection, The paper analyzes the factors (VMS, the distance betweencritical point and branch point, cross section, signal time dial,et)whichinfluences traffic capacity of the double-crossing of signal controlled. Theyare not to be quantified and then use model modified coefficient “K” to maskthe effects.6.The paper analyze the computing formula of the current intersectiontraffic capacity and chooses the computing formula which is nearest and suitsChina’s basic conditions to study and deduce the traffic capacity formula ofthe double-crossing of signal controlled after giving some postulatedconditions.7.The paper uses VISSIM to simulate running the double-crossing of signalcontrolled after analyzing the current traffic state of the intersection andthe simulation result shows that the traffic capacity and stop delay are improvedwidely and prove that the double-crossing of signal controlled has some utilityvalue.
