Over the past years, as energy and environmental problems become more and moreprominent, it has put forward higher requirements for building energy optimization.Since it is difficult to meet the requirements through the conventional energy-efficientdesign approach, its optimization is of great urgency. Therefore, this researchexplored a systemic integrative design approach, which could be used in theschematic design stage, covering design factors in urban and building scale, namelyintegrative building energy-efficient design approach through thermal simulation.Based on a combination of theoretical achievements of Building Integrative Designand the Second Generation Design Method, the paper firstly put forward the approachfor integrative building energy-efficient design, with discussion of its designframework, content framework, design procedure, object set, etc. It then compared itsdifference from the conventional energy-efficient design approach, and indicated theexisting constraints when applied in China. It finally put forward the integrativebuilding energy-efficient design approach through HTB2simulation, by optimizingassessment method and choosing suitable simulation tool. It explored its applicationby combining analysis of the typical case studies and discussion of the integrativedesign strategies in urban and building scale. As the integrative building energy-efficient design approach dealt with design factorsin relation to building energy consumption in a systemic, holistic and organic way, itcould achieve higher energy-efficiency than the conventional energy-efficient designapproach. The extending application of HTB2provided an effective tool for thermalsimulation in urban scale, which built up urban energy model with comprehensiveconsideration of impacts from the surrounding built environment, rather thancalculating energy use of the urban model by summing up simulation results of allsingle buildings. Besides, the optimization of the simulation output, such as thesensitivity tools, the output report of the VirVil Plugin and the buildingenergy-efficient prediction list produced comprehensive analysis and evaluation of building energy optimization and carbon reduction. Therefore, it could provideeffective guidance for decision-making of building energy-efficiency design. The research aimed to help designer develop thinking, explore the transition of thethinking mode of the conventional design, provide design method and technicalsupport for improving building energy efficiency to the largest extent, and to provideeffective control and guidance for the practice of integrative building energy-efficientdesign in the end.
