In this study, the morphology, taxonomy, phylogeny and geographic distribution of thefamily Coccidae (Hemiptera: Coccoidea) soft scales from China were comprehensivelyresearched. The historical and current research of Coccidae were outlined in this paper, theclassification character, study materials and methods were elaborated, the phylogeny ofCoccidae based on the morphological characteristics was reconstructed, and the geographicdistribution of Coccidae based on the document literatures and specimens information wasalso analyzed and discussed. In the taxonomic part, the known species were described in detail, new taxa wererecorded; the keys to all the subfamilies, genera and species were given;140speciesbelonging to48genera were described, including11new species,2newly recorded generaand7newly recorded species (2new species and2newly recorded genera and4newlyrecorded species were published); the morphological character of all new species, newlyrecorded genera, newly recorded species and some known species were illustrated. The new taxa and new records are listed as follows:New species: Coccus catechus sp. nov., C. longisetus sp. nov., C. multisetus Wang&Feng,2012, C. ruiliensis sp. nov., C. tianshuiensis sp. nov., Megapulvinaria beihaiensis Wang&Feng,2012, Neosaissetia citrusa sp. nov., Paralecanium qiongzhongensis sp. nov.,Pulvinaria choui sp. nov., P. hanzhongensis sp. nov., P. multiseta sp. nov.Newly recorded genera:Ericeroides Danzig1990, Platyelcanium Cockerell&Robinson,1915.Newly recorded species:Coccus ophiorrhizae (Green,1908) rec. nov., C. elatensisBen-Dov,1981rec. nov., Ericeroides zaitzevi Danzig,1990, Kilifia americana Ben-Dov,1979,K. deltoides De Lotto,1965, Platylecanium nepalense Takagi,1975, Pulvinaria decorateBorchsenius,1957rec. nov.51morphological characters were selected, and the genera Aclerda of Aclerdidae andKerria of Kerriidae were used as outgroups. The cladistics analysis of the48genera ofCoccidae from China was carried out by Paup4.0beta10combined with Treeview, twoparsimony trees and a strict consensus tree were obtained. The results reveal that the family Coccidae is a monophyletic group, Myzolecaniinae is the most primitive subfamily within thefamily, and the relationships among the genera are also defined. In the geographic distribution part, the geographic distribution of different genera andspecies of Coccidae is analysed. The results indicate that most genera and species are mainlydistributed in Oriental Region, and the endemic genera are only existed in Oriental Regionand Palearctic Region. In China, the species richness is highest in South China, which showsthat most Chinese soft scales are tropical and subtropical types. The morphological pictures for all new species, newly recorded genera, newly recordedspecies and some known species and the index to both Chinese and scientific names areattached at the end of the paper. The type specimens of the new species are deposited in the Entomological Museum ofNorthwest A&F University (NWAFU).
