Shara Yugur (Eastern Yugur language) is one of Mongolic languages that belongs to the Altaic language family. The present study is the first systematic empirical work on Shara Yugur. The experimental analysis was based on an acoustical database recorded by a male speaker, Ml. In addition, data gathered from one other speaker, a female, Fl, was analysed in order to check the results obtained from Mi’s data. The major part of the investigation concentrated on an acoustical analysis of phoneme system, but word-stress was also conducted. The results of the acoustical analysis showed that (1) For the Shara Yugur, a short vowel of complete structure can appear in any part of a word pronunciation, almost without any vowel weakening, vowel devoicing, even an abscission of a vowel. So we divided short vowels of the language into three parts as initial short vowels, non-initial short vowels and ending vowels. The Shara Yugur has eight short vowels [(?)],[(?)],[i],[e],[(?)],[u],[(?)],[y]; These vowels are pronunced very clearly on any part of a word, non-initial short vowels without any central-tendency.(2) The long vowels of the Shara Yugur are divided into the initial syllable and non-initail syllable. Corresponding to the short vowels, the Shara Yugur has eight long vowels [(?):],[(?):],[i:],[e:],[(?):],[u:],[(?):],[y:].(3)The Shara Yugur has six diphthongs [ei]-[ei],[(?)i],[(?)i],[(?)i],[(?)i],[(?)e], wich belong to rising diphthongs.(4) Shara Yugur consonants are classified into seven types of stops and affricate, fricatives, nasals, lateral, semivowels, flap and consonant clusters. Shara Yugur has basic consonants as plosives [p],[ph],[t],[th],[q],[qh],[k],[kh], affricates [t∫],[t∫],[ts],[tc],[tch], fricatives [s],[∫],[x],[h].[f].[s],[c],[z],[z], nasals [m],[n],[η],[n],laterals [1],[f], semivowels [w],[j], and flap [r],(5) Shara Yugur word stress is free (moveable), but has no distinctive function.’Free’is not a totally accurate term as stress placement seems to be combined with the quantity pattern of a word. It is not free in the sense that a speaker could deliberately place it on any syllable, but it is conventionally fixed on certain syllables. The Conclusion briefly sums up the content of the dissertation.
