To develop socialist democracy is not only a great historical task in building socialism with Chinese characteristics, but the most vital political and institutional guarantee for realizing socialist modernization and national revitalization. It is clearly stated in the report of the18th National Congress of the CPC that "We should continue to adapt Marxism to China’s conditions in keeping up with the times and increase its appeal to the people, work hard to equip the whole Party with the system of theories of socialism with Chinese characteristics and educate the people in these theories","Since the policy of reform and opening-up was introduced, we have made major progress in developing socialist democracy and opened up and kept to the socialist path of making political advance with Chinese characteristics, thus charting the correct course for achieving the most extensive possible people’s democracy in China". The political theory of socialist democracy with Chinese characteristics is the concrete embodiment of Marxist democratic theory in contemporary China. As one of the important contents of Chinese characteristic socialism theoretical system, to publicize the political theory of socialist democracy with Chinese characteristics is the necessary tendency and inherent requirement for promoting the popularization of Marxism of contemporary China.Starting from the scientific denotation and theoretical source of the political theory of socialist democracy with Chinese characteristics, the paper thoroughly elaborates its significance of promoting popularization of the theory, systematically surveys its historical track and experience, and objectively analyzes its status quo. Furthermore, the chapter makes summary and analysis on the political education of some socialist countries like the USSR, Vietnam and Cuba. The lessons drawn from the political education of the USSR are that it renounces the dominant position of Marxism in its dissemination, advocates abstract humanitarian values and overlooks the political education to the youngsters. Additionally the theoretical research is lagging behind, the teaching contents are empty and the teaching methods are simple. The serious consequences are that many Party carders and the common people lost their belief in Marxism, the western capitalist democratic thoughts gradually became the mainstream ideology, the Communist Party lost its power, the country sank into turmoil and people lived in distress. The enlightenments given by the political education in Vietnam and Cuba are that importance should be attached to connecting the theoretical researches with the country’s national conditions, strengthening the theoretical study of the Party in power and the construction of a clean and honest government, diversifying and flexibility of the teaching methods. Apart from all this, the theoretical propaganda must be in the interest of the general public.The seventh chapter proposes several thoughts on promoting popularization of the political theory of socialist democracy with Chinese characteristics in terms of guiding principles, methods, means and rational perceptions. It holds that promoting popularization of the theory must follow the principles:adhering to the guiding position of the Marxism, sticking to the theory’s nationality and nature of times, and ensuring the theoretical orientation in the interest of the general public. The specific methods, such as humanistic care with psychological counseling, mass dissemination with the leading of internet, system guarantee with standard education, can be adopted. As for the means, importance should be attached to conducting multi-level school education, exploring various social activities and valuing family virtue education. At the same time, the general public should constantly improve their correct understanding of China’s political system reform and objectively regard the democracy development. Such departments as governments, schools and enterprises should actively cultivate democracy awareness of the general public and promote people’s democracy through the inner-party democracy.
