“A far-sighted nation always focuses their attention on young people; a far-sightedparty always views young people as important force to promote the historical developmentand social advancement.” College students are very valuable human resources. Theyresemble the future of the country and the hope of the nation. The core value system ofcollege students is an integral part of socialistic core value system. It determines the natureof the value system of young college students and restricts the future growth trend of youngcollege students group. We must look at the core values of college students from the heightof national strategy and guide the college students to form core values which is consistentwith the socialistic core value system as well as reflects the cultural characteristics and rolemission of their own group.Based on the understanding above, this paper takes “college student core values” asthe object of study and the socialistic core value system as the guide line, seeks to answertwo basic questions: under the background of the socialistic core value system construction,how to interpret the essence of college students’ core values and what is the specificcontent of it? On the basis of the current situation and the formation mechanism, how toenhance the effectiveness of college student core values education?Around these two issues, the paper insists a combination of theoretical and empiricalresearch, and establishes the researching idea of “clarify nature-study current situation-explore formation mechanism-propose education strategy”. It draws three basicconclusions: First, in nature, college student core sense of value is a significant part andspecial performance of social core sense of value; it is the judging standard that formedafter college student group’s long-term practice; it is the most stable, enduring, and crucialheart. Second, in current situation, nowadays students should think deeper and morerational on themselves’ core sense of value’s state, structure and function. Meanwhile, theyhave a common sense on specific content of core sense of value such as “growth” and“responsibility”, but it is relatively less practice when compared with high degree ofrecognition.Chapter one stands on the actual needs, the theoretical development, the times‘character and discusses the significance, foundation and specific requirement of collegestudent’s core sense of value.Chapter Two describes the essence of college student core values. It focus on theclarifying of the premise concept and basic connotation of college student core values, and analyzes the internal structure of the college students’ core values from both horizontal andvertical dimensions. It has clarified the basic characteristics of college students’ core valuesas the duality of “spirit–practice”, the hierarchy of “what is-ought to be”, thedynamicness of “stabilization–building” and the sharing of “groups–individuals”.Chapter Three examines the current characteristics of the college student core values.It is carried out on three levels of “degree of the consciousness of contemporary collegestudent core values”,“degree of the consensus of contemporary college student corevalues”,“the correspondence between contemporary college student core values and thesocialistic core value system”. Based on this, this chapter has summarized thecharacteristics and current situation of contemporary college student core values andanalyzed the explicit problems and their influencing factors.Chapter Four mainly discusses the generation process of the core values from theperspective of the student as the main body. It discuss the key connections of collegestudents core sense of value, which include value consciousness, the value consensus andthe value sublimation, on the basis of student subject.Chapter Five discusses the strategy of college student core values education. It talkswith focuses on the correction of past misunderstandings in core values education. Thesemisunderstandings include paying more attention on knowledge education instead of virtueeducation, on instilling of knowledge instead of guiding on mind. Besides, this chapter putfocus on the importance to further clarify the levels of education goals, and to exploreeducational approaches from real life, as well as to put efforts on team-building and policyenvironment construction and other sectors to protect the effective implementation of thecore values education.Chapter Six attempts to concise the contemporary college student core values. The keyof that is to clear the basic principles in college student core values concision. On this basis,the concision of the core values can not only be consistent with the requirements of thesocialistic core value system, but also reflect characteristics of the college student group.
