For open pit mine, the stability of the slope is the most important guarantee for mining enterprises to achieve the mining efficiently all the time. Due to the different mining conditions, the open-pit mine is different from each other in the world and open pit mines have their own characteristics. In order to achieve this goal, the mine slope stability of the specific laws should be researched and the specific treatment program should be determined.The subject of this paper was the slope of Muliashi open-pit copper mine in Zambia. The comprehensive research method was used to achieve the security partitioning. After the security partitioning, the stability of the south slope, where the landslide and collapse occurred frequently, was researched deeply and comprehensive treatment measures was presented to obtain the good engineering effects and guarantee the security mining.The main conclusions of this paper are as follows:(1) Based on the principles of analytic hierarchy process and fuzzy evaluation, hierarchical structure model of slope rockmass quality classification is setup and parameters of physical and mechanical properties of rock mass are obtained. The safety factors of the slope under the static condition are recalculated to indicate that the main factor of the failure of the slope is the lack of the slope sufficient safety factor in the original design, which is consistent with the situation.(2) The failure of intermittent joint rock bridge is mainly affected by the parameters such as the angle, spacing, overlap amount and is divided into four failure modes, which is caused by the adhesion tension rupture between the mineral particles. And the count of acoustic emission events and rupture strength approximately both obey normal distribution function.(3) The main characteristic of the collapse in the slope is step-form damage, which is mainly constituted of the rupture transfixion belt of rock bridge between the end of intermittent joints and the primary joints. Although the shapes of parts of the landslide body are different from each other, the patterns of them are consistent.(4) The research indicates that the blasting load contribute to the shear plastic deformation in the south slope and it is extremely easy to cause shear plastic deformation in the weak transition layers of bedding slopes and consequently affects the overall stability of slope.(5) Synthesizing factors such as economic, technology and politics, cutting slope and unloading method is proposed for typical slope. The factors of safety of slope after management is obtained and it meet the standard requirements under the condition of static load and blast vibration respectively. "Press foot and resistanting water", as the comprehensive measures and suggestions of treatment scheme, is also put forward for the landslide areasIn this paper, several innovative research results are gained as follows.(1) A hierarchical structure model used for quality classification of slope rockmass is built and a new comprehensive evaluation method to identify slope rockmass quality is proposed, which make up for the deficiency of Standard for engineering classification of rock masses in the area of slope rock mass quality evaluation.(2) A micromechanical model to analyze rock masses with intermittent joints and rock bridge failure modes are built, and the crack law and mechanism of rock masses with intermittent joints under uniaxial compression are revealed, in addition, the failure characteristics of rock bedded slope with intermittent joints are explored.(3) Considering the elevation amplification effect, the formula of particle vibration velocity is derived, and a model to analyze blasting vibration in open-pit mine is built. As a result, the dynamic response pattern and damage characteristics of rock bedded slope under blasting load are revealed.In short, the research methods and related achievements in this paper, have a certain theoretical significance and engineering application value.
