Intercultural teachers'working in universities in western countries has a long history since the university was generally viewed as a place where people gathered together from all over the world. However, the history of intercultural teachers working in colleges and universities in China, as one of the positive outcomes of the opening policy in the early 1098's, is comparatively short. Under the guidance of the central government of the People's Republic of China, administrative bodies, such as State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (SAFEA) and Ministry of Education (MOE) have issued a series of relevant policies. With the rapid development of internationalization of higher education as it moves forward to "mass" from "elite", each year hundreds of thousands of foreign experts and teachers apply to come to work in colleges and universities around China. In fact, they have already grown into an indispensable part of the faculty. Yet, with the increasing number of foreign teachers there exist various problems and issues in foreign teachers'management which require urgent resolution. The effective management of intercultural teachers has become the need to be most urgently resolved.Looking back at the academic research on international teachers in universities in the western countries, we would find that this research mainly focused in the areas of international human resource management (IHRM), communicative competence (CC), intercultural communicative competence (ICC) as well as high context and low context in ICC. In the past three decades, the similar studies on the issue of how to manage intercultural teachers have been conducted in the academic world in China with the guidance of governmental policies and internationalization of China's higher education. Scholars have devoted themselves to the research of human resource management of foreign teachers in colleges and universities in China, with issues of inadaptability in class of foreign teachers in higher institutions, and obstacles in intercultural teaching, among which the issue of intercultural teaching management of foreign teachers has just come into researchers'view. It needs further study.Firstly, this study focuses on the problem of intercultural teaching of foreign teachers in higher education, which reflects creative perspectives in both research orientation and the theme-selecting. Secondly, the research methodologies of questionnaire and interview have been dominantly utilized together with those of literature and comparison. All those research methodologies center on the theme of intercultural teaching management in colleges and universities in China, and are closely connected with management elements which would affect intercultural teaching. Therefore, an empirical analysis has been conducted, which demonstrates an innovation of research methodologies. Thirdly, the theories of intercultural management and intercultural communication are applied in this study, and they are well embedded in it, which symbolizes the innovation in terms of theory application. Fourthly, on the basis of stating the current research trends both at home and abroad, this study defines the core concepts of intercultural teaching management in colleges and universities in China, highlighting the main elements of intercultural teaching management with the guidelines of the theories of both intercultural management and intercultural communication. On the base of empirical analysis, this study proposes some creative countermeasures and refreshes pathways of intercultural teaching management in colleges and universities in China. By doing so, the creative research content can be achieved. And finally, on the illustration of the management elements and the empirical study in intercutltural teaching in colleges and universities, it is initially discussed about managing the students'learning autonomy, establishing real contexts for the learners and managing them effectively. Hence, an innocation of management elements can be come into being.Consequently, the following conclusion can be drawn out:the research of intercultural teaching management is turning into a heated discussion in the academic world both at home and abroad. It is the clear goal of intercultural teaching management that is bound to both the starting point and the destination of realizing intercultural teaching management practice in colleges and universities in China. It is the reconstruction of a professional and competent managerial team that can assure the quality promotion of intercultural teaching in colleges and universities in China. It is the clarification of management tasks and management contents that should act as a pre-condition of specific management in colleges and universities in China. It is the utilization of scientific and feasible management methods that are regarded as key points in intercultural teaching management in colleges and universities in China. And it is the objective recognition of "interculturality" among the subjectivity of intercultural management that should be viewed as the essential characteristic of intercultural teaching management, which should be helpful to resolve the problems in the process of intercultural teaching management.
