Causality is the connection between cause and result,which is also an important expression of universal connection in the objective world.An important characteristic of causality is cause in front of result,which is called "cuase in front of result" model.Vice versa,cause does not always come first,and result does not always follow;that is "result in front of cause" model.The paper does research on causality from the point of semantic category(including illustrative causality,inferential causality,expressions of disillusioned causality sentences,expressions of causality in Chinese with no marked forms,stratification of causality expressions and subjective problems,comparison of causality expressions between Chinese and Thai).The main contents of the paper are:The first chapter is introduction which describes the whole paper and provides the selection significance,the objects and methods of research,research status of causality.The theories and methods used in this paper,the corpus's sourse and the structure of the paper are also described in this part.The second chapter talks about the definition of causality and its formative composition.And this part compares causality with correlative semantic relations,including purpose relation,hypothesis relation,condition relation,transition relation,consistency relation,then raises the connections and differences between causality and correlative semantic relations.In addition,this part analyses the conjuction words on the baisis of parts of speech which is used for expressing causality.The third chapter specifies illustrative causality.In this part,"yinwei p,suoyi q' is regarded as a typical expression,and "cong'er,yizhi" is regarded as a special expression.Furthermore,synonymity illustrative causality is analysed from the point of grammatical meaning,syntactic structure and pragmatic meaning.The fourth chapter specifies inferential causality.In this part,"jiran p,jiu q" is regarded as a typical expression,and "kejian" is regarded as a special expression.Moreover,this part compares "jiran p,jiu q" with "yinwei p,suoyi q" from the point of grammatical meaning,syntactic structure and pragmatic meaning.The fifth chapter discusses disillusioned causality."Nanguai" is the symbol of disillusioned causality,and this part mainly discusses the structure types,semantic features and pragmatic features of "nanguai" in causality sentences.The sixth chapter is about expressions of causality in Chinese with no marked forms,which embodies in predicate complement structure,serial verb construction,subjective object structure,compressed sentence and abbreviation of causal marks.At the same time,this chapter analyses its correlative reseachs,types and semantic relation.The seventh chapter is about stratification of causality expressions and subjective problems,especially hierarchy of causality including one causality relationship and two causality relationships.The causality sentences sort "from cause to result" sentence and "from result to cause" sentence.At the same time,this part also discusses how to express the subjectivity strongly or weakly.The eighth chapter compares the causality expressions between Chinese and Thai.This chapter discusses the causality as well as its correlational research in Thai and its specific expressions.The markedness model of causality in Chinese and Thai is also discussed,and the similarities and differences of expressions in the two languages are revealed.The paper is summarized in the ninth chapter,including the innovation and the existing questions.
