Everybody has body.Body is the unity of the flesh and soul.Human being's consciousness and thought dwells in the body and it's the mixture of the flesh and soul.Sculpture and body are inseparably related.Body is the birthplace and object of sculpture.Body is also the communication bridge of the sculptors and the viewers.The image of the sculpture's body is the projection of the creator's body.The creator's body is under the control and management from the power.The dissertation will discuss the conception and phenomenon of the body in contemporary China through the body shaping from society,the body image of sculpture,the body of sculptor,the body of viewer,the presentation of material,situation and the conception embodiment.Although the body in sculpture is multidimensional,we only observe,dissect and imitate the bodybiologically for a long time.The research of body is often absent in the sculpture theories and criticism,so the dissertation will bring the viewpoint of body into the sculpture research in contemporary China.The dissertation will decode and annotate the intertextuality of sculpture and social formation by researching the change of the body dimensions in contemporary sculpture in China based on the related body theories.The research on body theory is advanced and it's different from the 80s' art ontology.The research on sculpture theory and creation is carried out based on the existing body philosophy and bodysociology.The dissertation is a cross-over study focused on body and based on art sociology and it enriches the visual field of sculpture research and make up for its blind-spot.In the past,the sculpture theory and practice is based on the sculpture ontology formed by shape,space and construction.It made sculpture just physically.The research try to untangle the dimensions of body in the sculpture of China from shape to body,space to field,physical material to material of embodiment.Nowadays,the body becomes the flesh of lust by the commercial society.People are away from the body itself further and further.Consumption becomes the consuming of symbol and eliminates the body at last.How to keep the body's presence in the simulative and immersive world has the practical significance for sculpture.At the same time,the reattention on the up-to-date value of the eastern aesthetics is the essential way for the localization of the sculpture of China.The eastern aesthetics opposes both the dualism which separates the body and soul and the generalized conception of body.
