The textual comparison between Collected Annotation of The Confucius Analetcs by He Yan and incomplete The Confucius Analects Annotation by Zheng Xuan means not to expound the philosophical ideas in The Analects of Confucius, but to find out a closer way to its original idea and the establishment of an authoritative annotation, which is quite benefit for summarizing the principle of Chinese classic Hermeneutics.Zheng's annotation was lost in history,so the comparison between Collected Annotation of The Confucius Analetcs by He Yan and incomplete The Confucius Analects Annotation by Zheng Xuan is impossiple.Luckily, some remaining chapters was found in Dunhuang and Turpan, the amount in total is almost half of its original edition,so the comparison of Zheng Xuan and He Yan turns out to be possible today. There are three major parts and ten chapters in this paper. The first major part is an introduction about various kinds of The Analects of Confucius in Han dynasty and the development of Collected Annotation of The Confucius Analetcs by He Yan.Then emphasized to discuss the composing author of this book. The signature authors of Collected Annotation of The Confucius Analetcs, are five authors, and He Yan is the last one. However, the opinion in this paper is that the book was composed by He Yan alone, and the other four were merely nominal authors.Reasons are as follow.Firstly,it was the awareness of political crisis from He Yan that made him tried to draw his opponent to secure the safety of himself.Secondly, the five signature authors were belong to two different political groups,it was hard for them to cooperate to compile a book.Thirdly, from the distribution of the annotations from all eight signature authors in this book, its both disarrangement and out of order,it was hard to say this book was under the cooperation of all the authors.Fourthly,He Yan' s father' s name is "Xian",this character is taken as a taboo in the whole book. For instance, all "Bao Xian"in the book are written as "Bao Shi".If the book was composed by five authors, how could they also taken "Xian" as a taboo?Lastly,He Yan was Cao Cao' s foster son and son-in-law,belonged to the Cao' s group,Wang Su was Si Mazhao' s father-in-law,who belonged to Si Ma' s group. He Yan took Wang Su' s ideas as references, which meant that He Yan had an political idea of catering for Si Ma' s group. With the five reasons above, this paper advocates a new speculation and hypothesis which is looking forward to your suggestions and modifications. The second major part is from chapter 3 to chapter 9.All 7 chapters will compared the annotations in Collected Annotation of The Confucius Analetcs and The Confucius Analects Annotation item by item, and with comments about each advantage and disadvantage parts, mainly on annotative text comparison and comments.About the measurement of the comments, first of all the annotation must be close to the original textual idea.If the text is not easy to define,"better philosophical idea took the advantage".From the angle of context, the back ground of the text must be explained, not to draw far fetched analogies. From the angle of reasons, evidence with firm proof took the advantage, annotate the text with text is appreciable, deductive suggestions were not taken as evidences. From the angle of text, the simpler the better.Good annotation is not long and stop at the very point it should stop, leaving the readers imaginary space but not replacing the their own minds. From the angle of style,Confucianists in Han dynasty preferred to seek truth from the facts, they could often find the balance during the explaining process. From the angle of time order, earlier annotation would be adapted when similar ones appear, which meant to respect the invention right, etc.Through the comparison we can find that several tens of annotations in Zheng Xuan' s book was plagiarized from the former scholars without marking any reference.Zheng annotated Qu li · Li ji "no plagiarism",he claimed that“plagiarism, namely cheating, means copy another person's idea as their own." That's exactly what Zheng was done in his book.Chapter 7 specially discussed this problem.Zheng was a great Confucianist who owns a high status in history, and he was never accused of plagiarizing, but in this paper, over ten evidences are provided to prove he plagiarized from the former scholars.Even though this denouncement seems a great disrespect to his superior, but seeking the truth is more meaningful to academic research. This chapter is the most innovative part in the whole paper. The third major part, which is the last chapter, whether the annotation by He Yan in Collected Annotation of The Confucius Analetcs possesses with the characters of metaphysics has become highlighted recently in the academic circles.Roughly there are three opinions.Firstly, there indeed metaphysics characters in Collected Annotation of The Confucius Analetcs.Secondly, there's no metaphysics characters in Collected Annotation of The Confucius Analetcs.Thirdly, there are both Confucian ideas and metaphysics conceptions in Collected Annotation of The Confucius Analetcs.Author of this paper supports the third idea but with a different discussing reason and method with current scholars. The breakthrough point of this paper is that:on the text of The Analects of Confucius, there are both substantial problems like ceremony system and metaphysical problems like "human natural and heavenly principle".More specifically, the eight group were adept at the ceremony system explanation,He Yan only needed to choose the best of them without further annotation, but on the metaphysical prolems like "human natural and heavenly principle",He Yan and Wang Bi in Wei dynasty was much better than Confucian scholars in Han dynasty, the annotation by He Yan alone reflected this character. To sum up,Collected Annotation of The Confucius Analetcs is a book which contains also Confucian ideas and metaphysics conceptions.
