Research On The Development Of The Conference And Exhibition Industry In Shandong (1990-2014)

With the rapid development of economy and the implementation of strategic transformation in economic progress in China,the conference and exhibition industry has become a great platform to the world and a significant vehicle in participating international competition.It reflects the development of national economy in a country and region,and promotes its progress with rapid growth and high efficiency.Relying on their excellent hardware and software conditions,a great number of developed cities in the world hold large international conferences and exhibitions each year,so as to enhance their international reputation,and boost the economic prosperity as well as the development of tourist,cultural and other relevant industries.It is beneficial to the economic development and the construction of ecological civilization to devote major efforts to the conference and exhibition industry in line with sustainable development.With the reform and opening-up for more than three decades,the conference and exhibition industry in China has been gradually developing towards maturity and formalization;when it enters the 21st century,this industry has been growing rapidly and a number of conference and exhibition brands with international influences have been built.Domestic research on the conference and exhibition industry started in the 1990s and has been booming since the turning of the 21st century.Given the experiences of my career and academic dedication,this thesis focuses on the development of the conference and exhibition industry in Shandong province from 1990 to 2014.In the 1990s,Shandong province has made incessant endeavors in promoting the transformation of industrial structure,and advancing the shift from traditional manufacturing to the third industry,educational and cultural industry in particular.As an important component of cultural industry,the conference and exhibition industry plays a vital role in a self-evident way.In recent years,the successful organization of Shandong Cultural Industries Fair,China Art Festival and other comprehensive exhibitions and conferences has not only yielded enormous economic and social benefits,but improved the quantity and quality of conference and exhibition buildings to certain extent,intensified the auxiliary construction of related service industries,and upgraded the capacity of Shandong undertaking and hosting exhibitions and conferences,which have accumulated valuable experiences for their organization in the future.From the theoretical logic in history and based on the theories of cultural industry research,industrial economy,regional economy as well as philology and sociology,this thesis aims to conduct a systematic research on the developing course and the trend of the conference and exhibition industry home and abroad,as well as in Shandong province.Through comparisons and references of valuable experiences in the development of this industry,and specific analysis of important festivals,and exhibitions and conferences held in Shandong,this thesis expects to put forward correlative measures for the development of the conference and exhibition industry in Shandong.The main body is from Chapter Four to Chapter Nine.Chapter Four comments on the initiation of conference and exhibition economy in Shandong and the cultivation of industrial elements,which plays a vital role in the formation of the conference and exhibition industry in Shandong.Chapter Five and Six mainly discuss the period of its formation and growth,namely,from the early 1990s to 2014-the research node of this thesis-which focus on the major forms and.influences of the conference and exhibition industry in Shandong,and propose its achievements to the building of city brands.After entering the 21st century,the conference and exhibition industry in Shandong welcomes the phase of growth,during which it has become an emerging industry for the economic development in Shandong as a leading form of social and cultural industry,and this thesis emphatically analyzes its major forms,distinctive features and social impacts during this period.Chapter Seven and Eight make a thorough analysis of important festivals(China Art Festival and characteristic festivals in regions)and conferences and exhibitions(Shandong Cultural Industries Fairs of all previous years)held in Shandong respectively,which further enhances the understanding for the development of the conference and exhibition industry in Shandong province.Chapter Nine suggests that incessant endeavors be made to strengthen the advantages and break the check points of the conference and exhibition industry in Shandong province,which provides a more scientific direction for its development.The measures and suggestions put forward by this thesis are as follows:on the one hand,further strengthen the developing advantages of the conference and exhibition industry in Shandong,including efficiently tap the regional transportation strength,appropriately exploit historical and cultural resources,greatly improve the infrastructure and highlight the brands of the industry;on the other,diagnose the problems in the industry and raise corresponding advice,including:(1)comprehensively upgrade the marketing level of the conference and exhibition industry in Shandong;(2)make greater efforts in the cultivation of brands;(3)speed up the paces of "bringing in and going out";(4)improve the construction and employment level of conference and exhibition buildings in Shandong;(5)amend the weakness of lacking professional talents in the industry;(6)upgrade the auxiliary service of the industry;(7)improve the system of regulations and laws of the conference and exhibition industry in Shandong province.From the domestic and foreign documents currently,the research angle of this thesis which focuses on the history of industrial development is of distinctiveness to certain extent.By analyzing and studying the basic law and developing trend of the conference and exhibition economy in Shandong in terms of the life cycle of the industry-the cultivation of elements,the period of formation and that of growth-this thesis makes an observation of its formation,growth and typical cases,and analyzes the marketing environment and its evolving and growth characteristics,which have achieved multiple-dimensional research featuring vertical investigation and horizontal comparison.This thesis provides a comprehensive understanding of the conference and exhibition industry in Shandong by organizing and generalizing the experiences of the development of the conference and exhibition industry at home and abroad,and is of great practical significance for references and explorations of the developing path for the conference and exhibition industry in Shandong in the future.
