There is little doubt that the private entrepreneurs play an important role in the process of rapid economic development through entrepreneurial activities since the implement of reform and open-up in China. However,a problem not to be ignored is that entrepreneurial activities have serious uneven spatial distribution, the rate of new firm formation in the Eastern is faster than that in Central and Western of China. At present,China is facing great changes in external environment, restructuring the multiple shocks and economic cycles. We need to reexamine and adjust future economic growth patterns.Entrepreneurship,as an engine for the endogenous driving force of regional economic development and job creation, has received much attention. Therefore,it is particularly important and urgent to explore the determinant and economic consequences of regional entrepreneurship, and there is great theoretical and practical significance to understand the role of public entrepreneurship policy. The focus of this study is to examine the cause and consequence of regional entrepreneurship from multidiscipline.Based on new economy geographic perspective, this study explores the determinate factors of regional entrepreneurship and its impact on economic growth and rural-urban income inequality, and examines the impact of governmental policies in influencing entrepreneurship in detail.Chapter 1 discusses the background, significance, and proposes the research questions;then it puts forward the research method, the main contents and innovative points.Chapter 2 provides a literature review on regional entrepreneurship and its economic consequences, and states the problematic issues in the existing literature.Chapter 3 examines the impact of innovation, human capital, financial development, legal and market potation on regional entrepreneurial level by making use of regional-level panel data from China over the period 2001 to 2009.Chapter 4 explores the spatialfeature of the China's regional entrepreneurship from the data of period 2000 to 2009 by the exploratory spatial dataanalysis method, the spatial spillover effects of regional entrepreneurship in China is explored by introducing the geographic and economic type's spatial weight matrixes into the spatial panel models.Chapter 5 analyses the spatial feature of the China's regional marketization, entrepreneurship and economic growth from the data of period 2000 to 2009,and then the spatial error model and the spatial autoregressive modelareestablished to quantitative estimation the impact of marketization and entrepreneurship on economic development. In Chapter 6,the spatial econometric model is established to study the effect of regional entrepreneurship on rural-urban income gap from the data of period 2000 to 2009,Chapter 7 uses the eastern Chinese province of Jiangsu as a typical case to study the regional entrepreneurship:the relationship between the space correlation and agglomeration effect is explored using 65 County panel data over the period 2000 to 2009;furthermore,the C-D production function is used to verify the impact of entrepreneurship on the regional economic growth.Chapter 8 is the last part of this dissertation, the research results are summarized, conclusions are made, and suggestions for future study are proposed.
