In the economic transition of China,entrepreneurial enterprises,as an important part of national economy and innovation system,not only have formed a strong force that stimulates local economic development and innovation,but also plays a positive role in elevating living standards and releasing job pressure.It is true that entrepreneurial enterprises face a very high rate of failure because of weakness from “newness liability” and information asymmetry from loss of market information.Many scholars claim that scientific use of its network is the effective way to increasing the survival rate.Some empirical study demonstrates that entrepreneurial enterprises' network provides necessary resources to make up for their “newness liability”.Scholars home and abroad have already explored effects of entrepreneurial enterprises' network on their performance,while there is still a black box between them to be disclosed.Many scholars focus the product or technology innovation to solve the problem.Since the beginning of the century,widespread use of internet yields many successful electronic commercial enterprises based on their unique business model.As the most potential business activity system,many scholars focus on business model.Compared with technology innovation,scholars claim that business model that creates value has a bigger impact on firm performance.From the viewpoint of business model,the dissertation aims to disclose the role of business model between entrepreneurial enterprises' network and their performance,and construct the framework of “entrepreneurial enterprises' network — — business model — —enterprise performance”.Based on social network theory,market orientation and business model design theory,it consists of two sub-research problems:(1)how do entrepreneurial enterprises' network structure characteristics impact their business models in the contingency(such as different city location)?(2)In the context of different technology innovation strategies and organizational slacks,how do two types of business model design impact enterprise performance? The dissertation mainly consists of three parts:First,based on systematic literature review on social network and social capital and other related theories,it uses tie strength,tie breadth and tie status to elaborate on the entrepreneurial network.And it is pointed out that knowledge and skills provided by the entrepreneurial network made up of entrepreneurial enterprises' stakeholders form the precondition for their business model design.Besides,the dissertation clarifies the related theoretical development line based on literature review of market orientation and business model design,and classifies business model design into two types: market-driving and market-driven.This contributes to the development of business model design theory,and also has a managerial meaning and implication for entrepreneurial enterprises on how to utilize their network resources.Last,it conducted an empirical study of hypotheses proposed.Specifically relying on 202 high-tech entrepreneurial enterprises located in first-tier cities and other tier cities,it conducted a confirmatory factor analysis and correlation coefficient to test their reliability and validity,and used hierarchical regression analysis to test hypotheses proposed.The results indicate that most of hypotheses are tenable.To be specific,entrepreneurial enterprises' tie strength and breadth both have a positive impact on market-driving and market-driven business model designs;its tie status has a positive impact on market-driven business model design;enterprise location tier position positively moderates the relationship between its tie strength and market-driven business model design,and positively moderates the relationship between tie breadth and market-driving business model design,and negatively moderates relationship between tie breadth and market-driven business model design;market-driven business model design has a positive impact on entrepreneurial enterprise performance;exploitative technology innovation strategy negatively moderates the relationship between market-driving business model design and entrepreneurial enterprise performance;exploratory technology innovation strategy positively moderates the relationship between market-driving business model design and entrepreneurial enterprise performance;unabsorbed slack positively moderates relationship between market-driven business model design and entrepreneurial enterprise performance;absorbed slack positively moderates relationship between market-driven business model design and entrepreneurial enterprise performance,but negatively moderates relationship between market-driving business model design and entrepreneurial enterprise performance.Compared with the present studies,its contribution mainly consists of the following:First,the dissertation enriches the study of entrepreneurial network.Based on the review and survey,the dissertation takes China's transitional features into consideration and creates tie status to depict of entrepreneurial network structure so as to form three-dimension entrepreneurial network structure“tie strength,tie breadth and tie status”,and it is a meaningful addition to the present typical two-dimension“relation-structure”(Granovetter,1992).The dissertation investigated the effects of entrepreneurial network characteristics on business model design in the context of different city location based on big sample of entrepreneurial enterprises.Second,it enriches the study of business model design.The dissertation classified business model design into two types: market-driving and market-driven based market orientation theory.The classification follow the definition given by Zott and Amit(2007),and effectively distinct from technology innovation.Based on literature review and survey,we realized that market-driving and market-driven business model designs are effective ways of recognizing business opportunities and realizing customer value,and also effectively reflect the way of business operation.In short,it is believed that the classification of business model design is a meaningful addition to the present study of business model design.Last,the dissertation tries to disclose the black box of “the effects of entrepreneurial network on enterprise performance”.The mechanism of entrepreneurial network on enterprise performance is a constant focus in the field of management,and many scholars use technology innovation or product innovation to illustrate the media mechanism.Johnson,et al.(2008)pointed that business model design that aims to create value has a more direct impact on enterprise performance than product innovation.The framework of “entrepreneurial enterprises' network——business model——enterprise performance”enriches the research on effects of entrepreneurial enterprises' network.From the empirical result,it is known that market-driving business model design couldn't yield enterprise performance individually.At this time,commitment and maintenance of its entrepreneurial network merely transforms into the cost.That is to say,entrepreneurial network plays a negative role in this situation.
